Excellent and Desirable DWM/Mauser “V” Suffix Serial Number Model 1923
Artillery Style Commercial “Safe and
Loaded” Stoeger “American Eagle” Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol Rig with Board
Shoulder Stock and Holster - Serial no. 521v, 9 mm Luger cal., 7 7/8 inch round bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips.
An excellent example of a DWM Model 1923 “American Eagle” Commercial Luger in “Artillery” configuration with desirable A.F. Stoeger markings. Unlike
many early Weimar-era Commercial Lugers to hit the American market, which were made from left-over military components or entirely refurbished military
surplus handguns, these Commercial Lugers were made by the DWM factory (and later Mauser as this example’s writer believes it to be) specifically for the A.F. Stoeger Arms Company of New York, a noted early importer of European firearms in the 1900s.
Although it is estimated that over 1,000 of this model were manufactured, in reality, they are very scarce and difficult to find today. Features fixed serrated bade front and adjustable
tangent rear sights, a “crown/U” Oberndorf proof on the extension, “DWM” marked front toggle link, and “GERMANY” marked
on the right side of the extension ahead of the “A.F. STOEGER INC/NEW YORK” address. The right side frame rail is marked “
GENUINE LUGER - RESTRICTED U.S. PATENT OFFICE.” The extractor and upper safety position have the American-style “LOADED”
and “SAFE” markings. Matching visible serial numbers on the frame and extension, with matching “21” partials on the takedown lever,
trigger, side plate, and “21” on the breech block. Fitted with unmarked checkered walnut grips and a nickel-finished magazine with aluminum base
marked “GERMANY.” Includes an unnumbered border shoulder stock, unmarked leather holster, securing straps, cleaning rod, and takedown tool.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 98% original blue finish and 85% straw colors with light handling marks and faint spotting. The excellent grips have crisp checkering. The stock and holster are also excellent. Mechanically excellent.
