Factory Engraved Gebruder Merkel Over/Under Combination Gun - Serial no. 23109, 16x8x57 mm gauge, 25 5/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Beaded blade front sight, flip-up rear sight, and a pair of German style claw mounts on the matted solid rib, engraving at the breech area, 1936 dated German proofs, and chambers with extractors. The shotgun barrel has a 2 1/2 inch chamber and choke constriction of .034 inches. The casehardened action displays light scroll engraving and features dual triggers (front is single set) and a tang mounted safety. Attractively figured, multi-point checkered forend and pistol grip stock with raised cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and black grip cap and buttplate. Length of pull 14 3/16 inches. Weight 6 lbs. 10 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 97% plus original blue and casehardened finishes with minor handling evidence, a ding in the rib near the rear rear claw mount, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
LOT 3622 Factory Engraved L. Bayerl Over/Under Combination Gun - Serial no. 6334, 16/8x57 gauge, 26 3/4 inch solid rib bbl., blue/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. Beaded blade front sight, two leaf (one standing, one folding) rear sight, and a pair of German style claw mounts on the matted solid rib which is marked “L. BAYERL, REGENSBURG” in gold, engraving at the breech area, and chambers with a single extractor. The shotgun barrel has a 2 1/2 inch chamber and choke constriction of .020 inches. The casehardened action displays extensive scroll engraving and features dual triggers (front is single set), cocking indicators, and a tang mounted safety. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend and pistol grip stock with raised cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and horn grip cap and buttplate. Length of pull 14 5/16 inches. Weight 6 lbs. 11 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% original blue finish, 40% original case colors, and light handling evidence. The wood is very good, with a crack in the left of the forend and at the upper tang, some chipping along the edges, scattered dings and scratches, and worn but well-defined checkering. Blued Bohler steel barrels with beaded blade front sight, flip-up rear sight, and claw mounts holding a Mignon 4x scope on the matted solid rib. The shotgun barrel has a 2 1/2” chamber and choke constriction of .042 inches. The coin finished hammer action shows game scene on either side all surrounded by scroll. The gun features rebounding hammers and double triggers (front is single set). Lightly figured, multi-point checkered forend and pistol grip stock with cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and hard rubber grip cap and buttplate. Length of pull 14 1/8 inches. Weight 8 lbs. 12 oz. with scope. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 80% original blue finish, 98% original coin finish, light handling evidence, and some thinning on the barrels.
