Uniquely Engraved Remington/Parker Brothers 16 Gauge BHE Grade Double
Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 241672, 16 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured toward the very end of production during the Remington era and is one of the last 500 of these iconic American shotguns to be built before production ceased in 1942 due to the U.S. entering into World War II. The gun was then masterfully embellished to its current uniquely engraved configuration. Remington was known to keep a stock of these late Parker actions, finishing some of them many years later. The gun is built on a size “1” frame with blued steel barrels featuring dual white bead sights on the matted concave solid rib, 1 5/8 inch wedges of scroll engraving at either breech, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrel lug is factory marked “B Grade 16 ga/FOR 2 3/4’ SHELLS” and the left barrel flat is marked “WXX3” indicating that the gun was sent back to Remington for some repair or rework in August, 1951. The casehardened action displays attractive carved fences and beautifully executed scroll engraving on a punchdot background surrounding the “PARKER” banner on the underside as well as a trio of game scenes. The scenes consist of a pair of mallards on the left over a pond, a running rabbit in a forest on the underside, and a pair of pheasant in flight on the right. The gun features a gold single selective trigger and a tang mounted manual safety switch with a gold “S” mark. Highly attractive, multi-point fancy fleur-de-lis checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings and a pistol grip stock with gold inscription oval in the grip cap and a blued and engraved skeleton buttplate around the checkered bare butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .666/.666 inches; choke constriction .017/.028 inches; minimum wall thickness .032/.032 inches; 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel; 13 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 3 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% blue and muted case colored Remington factory finishes with minor handling marks and crisp engraving. The wood is also very fine with rich
color, a few tiny dings, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. 363 Estimate: 6,500 - 8,500
