Exquisite Documented Ray Viramontez Master Engraved and Gold Inlaid Colt
Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol with Jeweled Embellished Grips - Serial no. 70G35378, 45 ACP cal., 5 inch round
bbl., blue finish, smooth grips. This stunning Mark IV Series 70 pistol features beautifully executed leafy acanthus scroll engraving
with interspersed checkerboard patterns, fine texturing, and brilliantly bold gold inlays, covering almost the entire visible surface. As stated in the included letter from Master Engraver Raymundo Viramontez, this pistol has almost two years of hand work in the engraving and 24K gold inlays and was featured as
a centerfold in the very first issue of “American Handgunner” in September/ October of 1976. He further states, “This is a one-of-a-kind piece, that will not
be duplicated at any price”. The pistol features patriotic themed gold inlays of George Washington, the Liberty Bell, the classic drummers and fife player from “the Spirit of ‘76” painting, as well as other iconic American patriotic symbols. The trigger guard is inscribed “LIBERTY OR DEATH” and inlaid with fine gold wire. The attractive smooth grips are initialed CP by the bottom screw and feature detailed American bald eagle carvings with inset precious stones. The right panel features four rubies, four sapphires, and a single round cut diamond. The left panel is inset with four rubies, three sapphires, and a
brilliant round cut diamond.
CONDITION: Extremely fine as elaborately embellished by Master Engraver Ray Viramontez, showing only light handling marks on metal surfaces. The grips are very fine with some stones missing (see photos), otherwise only light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A true one-of-a-kind from a master craftsman. Estimate: 8,500 - 13,000
