straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina, primarily on high spots, and extensive flaking mostly visible on the right

LOT 3068 Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Takedown Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 947401, 32 W.S. cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. As “the ultimate lever gun” for over a century, the Winchester Model 1894 rifle holds a special place in the hearts of collectors. These “working guns” were not often ordered with special, extra cost features, making deluxe takedown variations highly sought after by collectors, especially those in high condition like this example. This Model 1894 is fitted with a dovetail Lyman blade front sight (bead absent) and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The left side of the barrel carries the two-line address/patent dates marking and the two-line nickel steel marking followed by “32 W.S.” A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line “MODEL 94” marking. The nicely figured deluxe walnut forearm and straight grip stock feature “H” style checkering. The underside of the stock has inlaid “RSM” initials. The right side of the upper tang is marked with the number “1” inside a triangle and the number “10.” The stock inlet is unmarked. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 80% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance, high edge wear, and cold blue visible on the takedown collar. The reoiled wood is fine with some minor handling marks and a few blemishes in the overall crisp recut checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 3,500
LOT 3069 Special Order Winchester Second Model 1876 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 7855, 45-75 cal., 29 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1878, the larger caliber Model 1876 was popular among those in the West who believed .44-40 wasn’t quite enough stopping power for whatever they might encounter. This
example is a Second Model with dust cover guide
retained by two screws and a dust cover with checkered “thumbprint” grip. The octagon
barrel is marked with the two-line Winchester address/King’s patent marking. The barrel appears to have been shortened 1/2 inch from its original special order length, and the magazine
appears shortened to match. The rifle correctly lacks caliber markings, as the only caliber initially offered for the Model 1876 was .45-75 W.C.F. The upper tang is marked with the model designation,
and the serial number is on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang is marked “47” and “3159”, with “3159”
repeated in the stock inlet and inside the buttplate. It is fitted with a German silver blade front sight, “1876” marked folding ladder rear sight, a peep sight mounted on the upper tang, and a special order set trigger. It is mounted with a replacement deluxe pattern checkered forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). CONDITION: Fine, retains 40% of the original blue finish, traces of the original case colors, and 25% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to either a plum brown or grey patina and some scattered small patches of old, dark oxidation. The barrel and magazine have been shortened (see above). The wood is also fine with the forearm a period replacement and some scattered minor dings and scratches throughout. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 3,750
LOT 3070 Special Order Winchester Model 1886 Lightweight Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 139082, 33 WCF cal., 24 inch round lightweight bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1906, with the standard Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The two-line address/patent dates and the caliber marking are on top of the barrel, and the two-line nickel steel marking is offset on the left. The upper tang has the three-line model and trademark information, and the two-line patent dates and serial number are on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang has the assembly number “227 R”, with “227” repeated in the stock inlet. It is fitted with a beaded blade front sight and elevation adjustable notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and plain pistol grip stock with both a hard rubber grip cap and checkered shotgun buttplate. The upper tang screw is undersized indicating that a peep sight was likely once fitted. CONDITION: Fine, retains 40% of the original blue finish with the balance a smooth grey patina, primarily on the receiver and some light pitting on the bottom of the receiver in front of the lever. The reoiled wood is also fine with a hairline crack in the top of the wrist and some scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
