Exceptional Factory Engraved Savage Model 99K Deluxe Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 309630, 300 Savage cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This Deluxe Model 99K rifle was manufactured in 1928. Factory records (copy not included) indicate that it was shipped September 24,1929, to Abercrombie and Fitch in New York and was subsequently returned to the factory for
service (not stated what work was performed) and re-shipped February 10, 1932. It has a beaded blade
front sight on a serrated ramp, two leaf rear sight, and receiver
mounted Lyman peep sight. The receiver and breech have factory floral scroll engraving. It is mounted with a checkered
Schnabel tip forearm and pistol grip stock with hard rubber grip cap and serrated steel buttplate. The buttplate has the
Savage logo near the toe.
CONDITION: Excellent. 95% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish remains with some minor discoloration on the barrel. The engraving is crisp. The lever has strong case colors and some splashes of varnish. The stock is very fine with an attractive stripe figure on the butt, sharp checkering and mostly glossy surfaces with some slight scuff marks mostly on the buttstock belly. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 7,500 - 9,500
engraving is similar to the 99PE, which was introduced by Savage in 1966 and reissued on the limited Centennial Edition in 1996/97, but is far higher quality executed with finer details and in high relief. The coin finished receiver is
beautifully decorated with near full coverage floral scrollwork on a contrasting stippled background along with three game scenes.
Featured on the right side is a bear, on the left side is an elk, and on the underside is a mule deer. The scope mount, pistol grip cap, and buttplate are engraved to match. The blued
barrel is fitted with a ramped beaded blade front sight and has an empty rear sight seat. The lever is casehardened, the bolt is jeweled, the multi-checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured walnut, and the stock has a right handed cheekpiece.
CONDITION: Extremely fine overall as custom embellished and upgraded, with 99% plus of the blue, coin, and casehardened finishes remaining; limited handling marks, a stress line and slight chip at the upper tang, and crisp forearm and stock checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 5,000 - 7,500

H&H Zehner Exhibition Quality Engraved Savage Model 99 Takedown Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 374548, 303 savage cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1938 and subsequently beautifully engraved by the firm of Hans and Helmut Zehner. The receiver, takedown collar and lever are decorated with near full coverage oak leaf and acorn pattern. A 3 inch flourish of the pattern adorns the barrel at the breech. The top
of the receiver is signed “H&H ZEHNER/FRANKFURT AM.” The firm of Hans and Helmut Zehner operated in post-
war Frankfurt, catering mostly to stationed U.S. service members and hunters. The underside of the receiver is engraved with a large monogram amongst the oak leaves and acorns.
Fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight with ramp and folding leaf rear sight. The receiver and tang are drilled and tapped for sight mounting. The forearm and pistol grip stock are checkered. The buttstock has a plastic grip cap and steel savage buttplate.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel and lever retain 95% custom blue finish. The coin finished takedown collar and receiver show slight discoloration. The engraving is crisp. The buttplate has some oxidation and retains half of the original blue finish. The stock has the typical stress crack at the upper tang and a slice repair ahead of the takedown latch on the forearm; otherwise, the wood is very good with minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,500
