Desirable Pre-World War I Unit Marked Imperial
German DWM Model 1906 Altered First Issue Navy Luger
Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 5301a, 9 mm Luger Auto
cal., 6 inch round bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips. A very fine
example of an Imperial German DWM Model 1906 First
Issue, altered, Navy Luger pistol, one of approximately
8,000 of this model originally manufactured. These
were standard issue for the Imperial German Navy all
the way through World War I, and even into the Weimar
era. This first issue 1906 Navy Luger has the desirable
6 inch barrel, two-position (100-200 meter) rear
sight, grip safety, and altered second variation safety
markings with “GESICHERT” in the upper position.
The majority of these first issue Navy Lugers had
their safety markings modified with the
original “GESICHERT” marking
on the lower position milled
away, but still partially visible
on this example. The top of the
chamber area is blank, with the
“DWM” monogram on the front toggle. The
underside of the barrel is marked with a “crown/M” navy acceptance proof
with a “crown” proof on the left. The left of the barrel extension has a “crown” firing proof
followed by double “crown/M” navy acceptance proof marks. With matching visible serial numbers on the barrel and frame, with matching “01” partials on the takedown lever, trigger, side plate, and extension, with the toggles and breech block numbered to another gun. Fitted with unnumbered (possibly replacement) walnut grips and a nickel finished magazine with walnut base with concentric circles numbered to another gun. The rear grip strap is marked with a “W.W.3693” naval unit mark for the dockyard at Wilhelmshaven, signifying use by either dockyard personal or on board of the ships stationed there.
CONDITION: Very fine overall as arsenal reworked, retaining 80% plus blue and 50% straw finishes with light edge wear, thinning on the controls, scattered minor spotting/pitting, and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500

World War I German “1915” Date DWM Model 1914 Artillery
Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching Magazine - Serial
no. 4615a, 9 mm Luger cal., 6 5/8 inch round bbl., blue/straw finish,
walnut grips. Features fixed blade front and range adjustable tangent rear sights,
“1915” date on top of the chamber, and “DWM” monogram on the front toggle link. “Crown/Gothic letter” proofs are marked on the right side of the extension. Matching
“15” partials on the takedown lever, safety, and trigger, while the barrel and extension assembly are numbered “4429” with matching components. The barrel’s crown has been reworked flat. Fitted with straw colored small parts, nitre blue pins, springs, and screws, and matching checkered walnut grips numbered “15” on the interior. Includes a nickel finished magazine with matching “4615/a/+” marked walnut base.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 90% plus original blue finish and 70% straw colors with some dings visible on the
frame above the takedown
lever, minor thinning, and edge
wear. The grips are excellent with minor compression marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500

Republican National Guard (GNR) Contract Luger Semi- Automatic Pistol
with Holster and
Magazine Pouch -
Serial no. 2367v,
7.65 mm Luger cal.,
4 3/4 inch round bbl.,
blue finish, walnut
grips. Manufactured
in 1935 in a limited
production run of 579, the Republican Guard Contract Luger used a 1906 pattern frame with
a grip safety, smooth back strap
and tapered pencil barrel. Fixed sights, the chamber stamped “GNR” (Guarde Nationale Republicanie) and the Mauser banner on the toggle.
The left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel have small “crown/crown/U” firing proofs,
and the pistol is numbered in
the military manner. This model
also has the extractor and lower
safety area marked “CARREGADA” and
“SEGURANCA” respectively. Straw finished
small parts, niter blue pins and screws, checkered grips and blued magazine with
an unnumbered, WWII-era proofed alloy base. Included with the lot is a Portuguese-style black
leather holster and two-magazine pouch, the latter stamped “1936” on the rear, a combination oiler and cleaning rod, and a pin punch.
CONDITION: Very fine, with 85% plus original blue finish, 70% straw, showing areas of brown patina, bright edge wear, scattered light scratches and dings, minor spotting and light handling marks. The grips are also very fine, with some mild dings and scuffs. The leather is very good, with cracking on the straps and hinges, a re-riveted belt loop on the holster, and mild scratches and scuffs overall. Mechanically excellent.

Excellent DWM Model 1923 Commercial Luger Semi-
Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 82601, 7.65 mm Luger Auto
cal., 3 3/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured
during the Weimar Republic era, these Model 1923 Luger pistols
were mostly made for export to the United States for commercial
sale. The top of the chamber area is blank with the DWM logo on the front toggle. Export stamped “GERMANY” on the right of the frame. “Crown/N” commercial proof marks on the barrel extension and underside of the barrel. Matching serial numbers visible on various components, with unnumbered standard checkered walnut grips and nickel plated magazine with an unmarked walnut base.
CONDITION: Excellent plus, retains 98% original blue finish with a few
light handling marks, and
nearly all of the
straw finish on the
small components.
The grips are also
excellent with
crisp checkering.
Mechanically excellent.
