Rare Stainless Steel
Prototype Serial Number
SS2 Colt World War I
Reproduction 1911
Government Model Semi-
Automatic Pistol with
Original Box - Serial no. SS2,
45 ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl.,
stainless steel finish, walnut
grips. Manufactured c. 2010,
this appears to be an early
prototype of Colt’s World War I
reproduction Model 1911 pistol
with an extremely rare stainless
steel finish. It is likely that this
pistol was a pre-production
test of the stainless steel finish
which never made it to full production. The “SS2” serial number on the right of the frame of this pistol indicates that likely relatively few were manufactured during the prototype phase. The consignor states this is one of only two manufactured in stainless steel. Includes the original shipping box (matching serial number, but finish listed as “carbonia blue”), Colt blue box, Kraft style box hand numbered to the gun, and two extra magazines.
CONDITION: Excellent, with a few scattered light scuffs on the right side of the slide and otherwise only the slightest handling marks. The grips are also excellent with only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The boxes are very fine.
Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
