LOT 1603
Scarce Pre-World War II Documented Police Shipped Smith & Wesson Non-Registered .357 Magnum Double Action Revolver with Pearl Grips and Factory Letter - Serial no. 61119, 357 magnum cal., 3 1/2 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, pearl grips. These revolvers are even more rare than their Registered Magnum model counterparts with only about 1,400 manufactured compared about 5,400 Registered Magnums. These 15 revolvers were shipped on February 13, 1940 and delivered to Wyeth
Hardware Co. of St. Joseph, Missouri. This revolver is consecutively serialized to the following lot that was in the same shipment.
The revolver has standard S&W markings, a Baughman quick draw front sight, an adjustable square notch rear sight, humpback hammer, and pearl grips. Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, ejector shroud, and cylinder. The matching assembly number “44066” is found on the inside of the frame and crane. The 3 1/2 inch barrel was a short barrel length coveted by
law enforcement. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 99% plus period refinished blue finish showing minimal handling marks. The replacement grips are also very fine with limited handling marks and attractive fiery colors. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000
