LOT 441 Rare Factory Engraved Boss & Co. 20 Gauge Single Trigger Sidelock Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 9310, 20 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Boss & Co. is one of the most highly regarded fine arms makers in the world and has long been an industry leader, embodying the words of author Donald Dallas, who put it ever so eloquently by titling his book on the company “Boss & Co.: Builder of Best Guns Only”. This gun was built circa 1962-1970 per Nigel Brown and features blued steel barrels with a single bead sight on the matted flat solid rib, “BOSS & Co.” and “13 CORK STREET LONDON W1” signed on the right and left tubes respectively, single band of engraving at the breech, correct period London proof marks, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a handsome casehardened sidelock action displaying highly attractive bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding “BOSS & Co.” signatures on either lockplate and “BOSS’S PATENT/No. 22894.” on the underside before spilling off of the action onto the toplever, triggerguard, and both tangs. The gun features bushed firing pins, gold centerline cocking indicators on either lockplate, a right hand roller triggerguard, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and Anson button release as well as a nicely figured straight
grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, blank gold inscription oval, and a checkered bare butt. Included is an oak and leather takedown case with Boss & Co. trade label and a nickel oiler. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed and measured .615 inches; choke constriction .010/.017 inches; minimum wall thickness .036/.037 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 5 lbs. 12 oz.
