Outstanding Factory Engraved W. J. Jeffery & Co. Boxlock Ejector Double Rifle with Case - Serial no. 41508, 500 Nitro Ex cal., 25 inch solid rib bbl., blue/ coin finish, walnut stock. W. J. Jeffery & Co. has long been a top name in the British gun trade, and this rifle demonstrates the outstanding quality that they are known for. The rifle is constructed with blued steel chopperlump barrels which feature a beaded blade front sight with hood, three leaf (one standing- two folding) rear sight graduated at 50, 100, and 150 yards with gold inlaid centerlines on the rear quarter rib, “.500’ NITRO” marked on the swamped section of the rib. The barrels are marked “W. J. JEFFERY & CO.” on the right and “LONDON” on the right, both in fine gold inlay, they also display bands of engraving at either breech and a flourish of floral engraving at the rear of the rib. The flats are marked with an import mark along with 2001 dated London nitro proof marks. The boxlock action displays a highly attractive brush bright finish with the non-engraved areas left with their stunning case colors intact, including the rear of the fences, the watertable and standing breech, and the inside of the triggerguard and triggerplate creating a stark and stunning contrast. The action is engraved with near full coverage floral scroll engraving surrounding “W. J. JEFFERY & CO” inside banners on either side of the action and a handsomely cut cape buffalo bull staring at the viewer as if they owed him money as it was put by famous American hunter Robert Ruark. The engraving bears no signature though it is clear whomever cut it is a master of the craft. The rifle is equipped with bushed firing pins, case hardened double triggers with articulated front, and a tang mounted manual safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE” marking. The rifle has beautifully figure, multi-point checkered forend with engraved coin finished fittings and a pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, coin finished and engraved trapdoor grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, gold inscription oval marked “SRM”, and a rubber recoil pad.
