Desirable Korean Conflict Springfield M1C Garand Sniper Rifle with Matching Scope Base - Serial no. 3534585, 30-06 cal., 24
nch round bbl., parkerize finish, walnut stock. This is an exceptional example of a WWII Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle produced in late 1944 that
was sold through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in 1997-99 timeframe. Unlike the U.S. Army overhauled rifles which show a smooth parkerized finish and a fully
cartouched stock. This Korean war era rifle is complete with an original WWII blued Griffin & Howe M1C sniper mount with the correct G&H markings on top between the rings that is
serial numbered (3,597,631) on the side, the original WWII matching scope base, numbered on the underside of the base. An original M84 sniper scope (still packaged and sealed in the original foil pack), a HART flash hider, MRT-52 leather lace on cheek piece, a GI canvas sling still in the Army pack. The receiver has the standard M1 receiver markings over serial number, 3534585, and the barrel is marked “S-A/9-51” indicating an early Korean war rebuild (consistent with the fact that most of all M1C were rebuilt after WWII) which probably saw actual sniper service. It has correct Springfield marked parts, as follows; trigger housing is marked “ D28290-16-SA”, the trigger guard is unmarked, and the bolt is marked “D28287-12SA/S-B3”, operating rod is marked “D35382-SA”
(with modified cut). The rear sight set and gas cylinder are as follows; elevation knob marked “HN” with the windage knob marked “DRC” with the late WWII/postwar production wide based version with the WWII round top gas cylinder lock with the late four slot gas plug. It has the correct all walnut stock and hand guard set with an excellent matching brown color on all three parts.
CONDITION: Very fine as arsenal refurbished overall with 98% of the Korean war era heavy rough textured, green parkerized finish with one small spot of finish loss on the lower heel of the receiver. The original G&H M1C mount retains 98% original blue finish with minor edge wear. The stock and hand guards are also very fine with a nice matching medium brown color with an excellent smooth appearance overall with just a couple of very minor
handling marks. A small section has been replaced by the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. A desirable M1C sniper for the Korean War era. Estimate: 6,500 - 9,500
cope
. These were the standard
sniper rifles during World War II, into Korea and even the early days of Vietnam. The original iron sights are properly absent as standard
on these sniper variants, with a Remington “2-43” dated barrel, “R” marked bolt with properly turned and contoured handle, and the properly offset manufacturer, model and serial number markings on the receiver ring. Smooth pistol grip stock with a
checkered blue steel buttplate. The M84 scope is serial numbered “30073” on the data plate, and mounted on
a parkerized Redfield scope base. Includes a canvas scope case, and oiler in the butt compartment.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 98% arsenal refinished parkerized finish with a few patches of light pitting visible underneath the finish. The arsenal refinished stock is fine with some light handling marks, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent. Scope is very good, retains 80% original blue finish with flaking and some light pitting on the tube, and crisp clear optics.
Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500

USMC Kollmorgen MC-1 4x Scope with Griffin & Howe MC-1 Mount for “1952 USMC” Sniper Rifle - , black finish. After the Korean War, the United
States Marine Corps sought to replenish its small supply of sniper rifles, and starting in 1951, set out to evaluate equipment from both military inventory
and on the civilian market to procure the best combination of rifle and optic. At the conclusion of these evaluations a
Kollmorgen Optics Corp. 4x model based off of the civilian Stith Mounts “Bear Cub” sporting scope was selected, with a
modified Griffin & Howe throw-lever mount, to be paired with the M1C Garand sniper rifle. With its greater magnification,
tool-less knob adjustments, and audible adjustment clicks, the Kollmorgen was considered an improvement over the M82,
and adopted as the MC-1. Reference pages 528-530 of “The M1 Garand Rifle” by Bruce Canfield for more information on the
Kollmorgen MC-1 and “USMC 1952” sniper rifle. Features the serial number “MC 753-P” marked on top of the main tube, with
“4X DOUBLE/STITH MOUNTS S.A., TEX./KOLLMORGEN OPTICAL CORP. BROOKLYN, N.Y./PAT. PEND.” roll marked around the ocular bell. The top of the
mount is marked “GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK/PAT.#1,856,549 MAY 3, 1932”.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retaining 90% plus original black finish with minor edge wear, small dings, and scuffs. Optics are mostly clear with minor clouding in the ocular lens and a crisp reticle. The mount is excellent with minor edge wear and handling evidence.
Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000
