Magnificent Angelo Bee Signed Master Panel Scene Exhibition Quality Engraved and Gold Inlaid Winchester
Model 42 Slide Action Shotgun - Serial no. 80684, 410 gauge, 26 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin/gold finish, fancy carved
walnut stock. Manufactured in 1951 and subsequently elaborately master embellished by Angelo Bee. Bee was one of the
premier outside custom engravers of Winchesters. Steel bead front and brass bead mid sights on the matted ventilated rib, a
gold inlaid band at the muzzle and barrel collar with some light engraving on the barrel collar and magazine retainer as well a
gold inlaid arrow on the magazine tube and chamber marked 3 inches, and choke marked modified. The receiver displays a game scene on either side consisting of a quartet quail being flushed by a setter on the left in a farm scene, and a trio pigeons and a fox on the right at the forest edge. The scene panels are coin with raised relief gold inlaid animals and wire borders surrounded by floral scroll with a gold inlaid border on both sides. The top of the receiver is embellished with more floral scroll. A Gamble’s quail is inlaid
in gold on the triggerguard flanked by light flourishes of floral scroll. The gold inlay on this gun is so extensive that even the serial number and “WP” proofs are inlaid in gold. The work is signed on the left side along with the addition of Bee’s signature “bee” logo. Mounted with a magnificently figured, fancy checkered walnut slide handle and straight grip stock with Winchester buttplate. Stock measurements: 1 9/16 inch drop at the comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at the heel; 14 inch length of pull; weight 5 lbs. 3 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as elaborately embellished by Master Engraver Angelo Bee, retaining 97% plus blue finish with some oxidation at the muzzle, slide retraction marks, and crisp engraving. Wood is excellent with minimal handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This would be right at home in any shotgun collection!
