LOT 1467 Outstanding Erich Friedrich Signed Factory Relief Master Engraved Sauer 202 “The Oaks” Bolt Action Rifle - Serial no. 017578, 30-06 cal., 22 inch round bbl., black/coin finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 2009. Sauer stands as a testament to the firearms tradition, striving to produce the finest sporting arms Germany’s oldest firearms manufacturer could produce. This rifle displays that ideology to the highest degree, having been turned from a standard rifle into a piece of true firearms art by the master engravers and stock makers at J.P. Sauer and Son. The barrel is fitted with a ramped blade front and island mounted rear sight with proofs on the right and the caliber on the left. The rifle displays magnificently cut relief engraving consisting of checkered and punchdot panels on top of the action which is surrounded with deep relief oak leaf and acorn engraved panels which extend on the bolt shroud and handle working its way around the top of the bolt handle checkering, onto the trigger, and onto the magazine floorplate. The engraving is backed with layered stippling, amplifying the relief effect of the engraving. The left side of the action shows a scene of two boars locked in the embrace of combat in a wooded scene while two more boar watch the carnage ensue. The magazine floorplate is engraved with a beautifully rendered layered relief cut boar bust coming out of wooded brush. This masterfully executed piece of firearms art is signed “Friedrich” on the right behind the bolt handle. Mounted in a grade 9 highly figured and incredibly highly contrasted multipoint checkered forend with contrasting tip and pistol grip stock with Sauer logo grip cap, Monte Carlo cheekpiece, and Sauer recoil pad. Includes a leather covered takedown case containing tools, engraved scope blocks, and a leather belt and Sauer belt buckle. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original black and coin finishes, with a few minor handling marks mostly on the wood, and crisp engraving and stock checkering. Mechanically excellent. Case is very fine. This outstanding piece of firearms art would be a standout piece and a magnificent conversation starter in any collection! Don’t squander this opportunity!
