Used Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless Semi-Automatic Pistol Carried by Gary Cooper in the Movie “City Streets” - Serial no. 399383, 32 ACP cal., 3 3/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured in 1921, this is a fine example of a Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless pistol that was carried by the Hollywood legend Gary Cooper
in the 1931 film “City Streets”. The film is a classic from the “Pre-Code” film
noir era that follows the story of a racketeers daughter and her love for a shooting gallery showman, the perfect fit for one of these Pocket Hammerless pistols. Included with the pistol is a set of framed documents which includes
a post card dated 25 December 1931, which lists the pistol by serial number and states that it was carried by Gary Cooper in the film and is being given as a gift. The post card is signed “Rouben M.” for Rouben Mamoulian, who was the director of “City Streets”. The display also includes a photo of Gary Cooper holding a Colt Model 1903 pistol (almost certainly this one) along with his co-star Sylvia Sydney. The left side of the slide has the standard two-line address and patent dates, with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The right side of the slide has the standard two-line caliber marking. The serial number is on the left of the frame and “R/VP” is on the trigger guard. It
is fitted with blade and notch sights,
as well as a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colts at
the bottom and “COLT” at the top. The framed documents display measures 18 3/4 inches by 20 3/4 inches. CONDITION: Fine, retains 80% of the original blue finish with some light holster/handling type wear and some scattered patches of light spotting.
The grips are very fine with the left panel showing an attractive aged chocolate tone, a few scattered light handling marks, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The framed display and documents are all very fine. Estimate: 5,000 - 10,000
