Excellent and Scarce DWM Model 1902 American Eagle Commercial 9mm “Fat Barrel” Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 22940, 9 mm Luger cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips.
This is an excellent original example of the first pistol chambered in 9 mm Parabellum (aka 9 mm Luger), the DWM
Model 1902 American Eagle “Fat Barrel” semi-automatic pistol, intended specifically for the lucrative United States market. Only approximately 600-700 of these pistols in this chambering were manufactured in 1902 and are typically
found in the approximate serial number ranges 22100-22300 and 22450-22900. Fixed sights, with the American Eagle on
the chamber, “DWM” on the front toggle link, and the following early Luger features: dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, recessed breech block,
“fat” profile 9mm barrel, flat recoil spring, grip safety and no stock lug. The small parts are straw finished, with a pair of correct unnumbered finely checkered walnut grips and a nickel finished magazine with a walnut base correctly marked “Cal. 9m/m” on bottom. Visible serial numbers
are matching overall in the “commercial” pattern. The front of the frame is marked “GERMANY”, appropriate to an American import of the era.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% plus original blue finish, 80% original straw finish on the small parts, with some minor edge wear and a few small patches of minor freckling. Grips are also excellent, with a few
nicks concentrated on the left panel, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
