Excellent DWM Model 1900 Commercial Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Matching
Simmons Hardware Box, Ammunition Box, and Two Original Luger Manuals - Serial
no. 5164, 7.65 mm Luger Auto cal., 4 3/4 inch round bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips.
These Model 1900 pistols were the first commercial Luger pistols produced by DWM at the
beginning of the 1900s. It has an unmarked chamber area with the DWM monogram on the
front toggle. The majority of these pistols ended up on the U.S. market, with this example
bearing with the appropriate “GERMANY” export marking on the front of the frame. It has all
the early desirable Luger features such as a long frame, dished toggles with toggle lock on
the right side, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch fast tapered barrel, grip safety, no stock lug,
and hold-open device. The lower safety area is correctly unmarked and polished. “Crown/B”,
“crown/G” and “crown/U” commercial proof marks on the underside of the barrel, with
“crown/B” and “crown/U” proofs on the left of the extension. Serial numbered in commercial
fashion with the full matching serial number under the barrel and on the front of the
frame, and the partial matching serial number visible on various components including
on the interiors of both checkered walnut grip panels. Correct nickel-plated aluminum
body magazine with an unnumbered walnut base. Includes a box with top label that reads
“’LUGER’ AUTOMATIC PISTOL” showing a depiction of a Luger along with the Simmons
Hardware Company, Inc. of St. Louis name, the handwritten matching serial number of the
pistol “5164” on bottom, containing a period 50-count Remington Arms-UMC box of 7.65
mm Luger Auto ammunition, two period original DWM Luger manuals (one in German, the
other in English), a Goodenough nickel plated oiler, cleaning brush and cleaning rod.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 90% plus original blue finish and 70% original straw colors,
with some minor edge wear and some light surface freckling on the grip straps. Grips are
also excellent with minimal handling evidence and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Box is good with mild edge wear and taped repairs around the outer edge.
