Factory Engraved Holland & Holland Royal
Hammerless Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 25255, 12 gauge,
30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/brush bright finish, walnut stock. This gun was completed
in 1908 according to page 334 of Donald
Dallas’ “Holland & Holland: The
‘Royal’ Gunmaker” and was
made with blued steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on the smooth
concave solid rib which is marked with a gold inlaid “2” and a flourish of scroll
at the base, “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” and “98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.”
signed on the right and left tubes respectively, period London proof marks on
the flats along with an import mark, a second import mark under the forend, and
chambers marked “1 1/8” (2 1/2 inches) with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the brush bright sidelock
action which displays near full coverage classic scroll engraving surrounding “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” signature banners on
either lockplate as well as “ROYAL/HAMMERLESS/EJECTOR” on the underside before spilling off of the action and continuing on the triggerguard, both tangs, and the
toplever which is marked with a gold “2”. The gun features double triggers, nitre blue action pins and bolts, gold centerlined cocking indicators, and a tang mounted
automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a highly figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and a gold “2” on
the Anson button release as well as a straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, “C.J.C.” engraved in the gold inscription oval, and a checkered horn buttplate.
Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .736/.739 inches; choke constriction .003/.012 inches; minimum wall thickness .022/.021
inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 3/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 14 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% of the reapplied blue, smooth brush bright finish on the action, and minor handling evidence. There is a crack at the rear of either lockplate; otherwise, the wood is
very fine with a few scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Cased Engraved William Cashmore Double Barrel
Side Lock Shotgun - Serial no. 12208, 12 gauge, 26 inch
solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured in Birmingham, England. William Cashmore
was a gunsmith and manufacturer operating from Birmingham
from the late 1800s through the early 1900s with several patents and innovations
to his name. The barrels are marked “Wm. CASHMORE. MAKER. BIRMINGHAM SIR. J.
WHITWORTH’S FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” on the rib just forward of the breech. The
breech end of the barrel rib features a tight detailed floral scroll engraved area with
a gold inlaid “1”. With standard British proofs on the barrel flats and water table. With
2 3/4 inch chambers, automatic ejectors, and choke constrictions of .015/.034 inches.
The frame and lock plates have been highly engraved in a tight, detailed bouquet
and vine scroll with “W.M. CASHMORE marked on both lock plates just rear of the
main hinge. The tangs and break lever are similarly engraved with a gold inlaid “1” on the lever. With dual triggers
and an automatic tang safety. Mounted on a nicely figured English walnut multi-point checkered splinter forearm
with engraved hardware and a gold inlaid “1” at the tip and straight grip stock with an initial shield on the comb
marked with the McMillan family coat of arms and motto and a brass initial oval on the other side marked “JWW”.
Includes a leather bound W.M. Cashmore takedown case with nickel oil bottle, two snap caps, three piece wood
cleaning rod, cleaning rod heads and a partial box of Hoppes bore patches. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop
at comb; 2 11/16 inch drop at heel; 14 7/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Fine as period refurbished with 95% of the blue finish on the barrels and some scattered light handling marks and some light surface scratches.
The frame has aged to a mostly uniform gray patina with traces of the original case colors in the more protected areas. The triggerguard retains half of the dull
refurbished blue. The tip of the break lever shows some edge wear. With areas of light edge wear on the triggerguard and lower tang. The refurbished wood is fine
with a warm satin oil finish, well defined checkering and some small scattered indentations an light surface scratches. Mechanically excellent. The case is fair with
handling and storage marks, moderate age cracking on the straps, loss of lining, some staining, well preserved inner label and weakening of the leather “hinge” area on the back side.
