Factory Engraved Holland & Holland Royal
Hammerless Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 16953,
12 gauge, 28 1/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock.
The gun was originally finished in 1896 or 1897 according to Donald Dallas’ “Holland
& Holland: ‘The Royal’ Gunmaker” and is now fitted with blued steel barrels featuring a
single bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked “NEW BARRELS-BY-WILLIAM
POWELL & SONS, BIRMINGHAM.” along with a flourish of scroll engraving at the base, proof marks dating
to between 1925 and 1954 on the flats along with an import mark, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with automatic
ejectors. The barrels are fitted to the sidelock action which displays near full coverage attractive scroll engraving surrounding “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” signature
banners on either lockplate, “ROYAL/HAMMERLESS/EJECTOR” on the underside, and a patent marking and gold “2” on the toplever. The gun features double triggers, gold
centerlined cocking indicators, and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered
splinter forend with engraved fittings and Anson button release as well as a straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, “R.M.” in the gold inscription oval, and a
checkered horn buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .730/.731 inches; choke constriction .005/.030 inches; minimum wall
thickness .023/.023 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 3/16 inch drop at heel; 14 7/8 inch length of pull; cast-on for a left handed shooter; weight 6 lbs. 12 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% blue finish on the barrels and toplever, the action shows a fine brush bright appearance, a small patch of spotting below the breech,
loss of blue on the lower tang, and light handling evidence. There is a repaired chip from the right of the forend; otherwise, the wood is also very fine with a few dings and scratches and crisp checkering.
Mechanically excellent.

Factory Engraved Boss & Co. Pigeon Gun Sidelock Double Barrel
Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 5139, 12 gauge, 30 inch solid rib
bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This gun was completed
between 1901 and 1905 according to page 237 of Donald Dallas’ book “Boss & Co.: Builders of Best
Guns Only”, which also list this gun by serial number as a pigeon gun. The gun has blued steel barrels
and features a single bead sight on the matted flat solid rib, “BOSS & Co.” and 73 St. JAMES’S STREET
LONDON.” on the right and left respectively, original period London proof marks on the flats, Briley choke system
(light modified/full installed), and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels have been sleeved, retaining their original breech
with new dovetailed lump and tubes. The barrels are fitted to the casehardened sidelock action which displays Boss’ classic highly attractive
bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding “BOSS & Co.” signature banners on either lockplate. The gun features a single non-selective trigger,
gold centerlined cocking indicators, and a tang mounted safety which has been disabled. The gun is fitted with a highly figured and multi-point
checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings and an Anson button release as well as a straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, blank inscription oval, and a Kick-Eez recoil pad. Includes a
fine modern wood and leather takedown case with roll out cleaning mat and containing skeet, improved cylinder, light modified, and two modified spare choke tubes. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L):
bore diameter nine inches from the breech .734/.734 inches; minimum wall thickness .034/.033 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 1 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 11 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 98% blue finish, 30% original case colors with muting and fading to a silver patina, light handling evidence, and a few freckles of spotting. There
is a small crack at the rear of the forend; otherwise, the wood is very fine with a few minor marks and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is excellent.
