LOT 3034
Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle
- Serial no. 446982, 32-40 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The Model 1894, like many other Winchester lever actions, saw
widespread use in the American West well into the 20th century by ranchers and farmers due to their firepower and rugged dependability. As “the ultimate lever
gun” for over a century, the Winchester Model 1894 rifle holds a special place in the hearts of collectors, and as a high condition example, this Model 1894 will make a
great addition to any lever action collection. Manufactured in 1909. The rifle is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The upper
left barrel flat has the two-line address/patent dates legend ahead of the rear sight and “32-40” at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model/trademark
information. It is mounted with smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 80% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. 95% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. Faded patterns
of original case colors remain on the buttplate. 70% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is also very fine with minor dings and scratches.
Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The Felix Bedlan Collection.
Estimate: 3,000 - 45,000
LOT 3033
Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Takedown Rifle - Serial no. 248891, 32 WCF
cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1903. This is a very fine
example of a documented takedown Winchester Model 1892 rifle. The Model 1892 was
incredibly popular in the American West due to their ability to pair with a Colt Single Action Army
revolver and share ammunition, and remained so into the age of the automobile. Surviving examples in high condition are
becoming difficult to encounter. The rifle is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top of
the barrel has the two-line Winchester legend ahead of the rear sight and “32 WCF” at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information, and the
underside of the frame has the serial number. It is mounted with nicely figured plain walnut forearm and straight grip stock. The buttstock is fitted with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retains 85% plus original blue finish, 75% vivid case colors on the lever and hammer, and 70% original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance mostly a
smooth grey patina with some scattered speckling of brown. The otherwise very fine wood has a few scattered light dings and scratches, and a small barely visible chip at the toe. Mechanically
excellent. A solid representative example of a Winchester Model 1892 takedown rifle.
Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000
LOT 3032
Desirable Early Production Three
Digit Serial Number 713 Winchester Model 1895 Flat-Side Lever
Action Rifle - Serial no. 713, 40-72 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish,
walnut stock. This Model 1895 Winchester rifle was manufactured in 1896, the second
year of production. This rifle has the first model “Flat-Side” receiver. The receiver has the slight
flare at the junction with the forearm and lacks the fluted sides found on Model 1895 Winchesters
manufactured after serial number 5,000. The 26 inch octagon barrel is chambered in .40-72 WCF caliber, has
a top flat marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-”
ahead of the rear sight and “40-72 WCF” at the breech, and fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an elevation
adjustable rear sight. The lower tang is marked has the early production three digit serial number “713.” This serial number
is stamped between the tang screws. The two-line patent date marking is stamped behind the trigger. The Model 1895 was the first non-
detachable box magazine rifle offered by Winchester. The First Model “Flat-Side” 1895 rifles were manufactured for less than two years and are scarce
and very desirable, and this example is in well above average condition, making for a very appealing addition to any lever action collection.
CONDITION: Fine, retaining 70% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The wood is very good with some chipping on the forearm, otherwise dings and
scratches throughout. Mechanically excellent. A fine representative Winchester Model 1895 flat sided rifle well deserving of any Winchester lever action collection.
