casehardened finish, walnut stock.
Originally completed as a 450-400 (likely black
powder express) rifle on August 9th, 1902, before being converted to this rarely seen
configuration in .30-30 Winchester. The rifle has replacement barrels built of Bohler Rasant
steel featuring a beaded blade front sight and a two-leaf (one standing, one folding) rear sight on the smooth flat solid rib, light engraving at the breech, “DANl.
FRASER & Co. signed on the short rib, import mark under the forend, 1997 dated Birmingham proof marks, and chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels
are fitted to the casehardened Rogers patent sidelock action which displays attractive classic scroll engraving with rope border surrounding “ALEXh. HENRY &
Co.” signatures on either lockplate and a mix of niter blued and bright pins. The rifle features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted automatic
safety. The rifle is fitted with a replacement beautifully
figured and multi-point checkered splinter forend with
engraved fittings and an Anson button release as well
as a pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points,
horn grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, blank gold
inscription oval, and a black serrated buttplate. Included
is a modern goat skin leather takedown case with “M. L./
SCARDROY” on the lid and containing two nickel oilers
and some cleaning tools. Length of pull 14 13/16 inches.
Weight 8 lbs. 2 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished,
retaining 99% black finish on the barrels, triggerguard
bow, and toplever, 95% plus vivid case colors, and minor
handling evidence, a small crack at the rear of the left
lockplate, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend.
Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine. A great
opportunity to own a classic English double rifle in a
distinctly American caliber!
