Rare Parker Brothers .410 Bore VHE Grade Double Barrel
Shotgun - Serial no. 234952, 410 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl.,
blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1930 as
one of only 463 manufactured in this configuration per the chart
on page 258 of “The Parker Story” by Gunther, Mullins, Parker,
Price, and Cote and even fewer still, only 17%, were made with
ejectors making this a very rare and desirable gun. The gun was
built with blued steel barrels featuring a single bead sight on
the matted concave solid rib which is marked “PARKER BROS.
MAKERS. MERIDEN. CT. U.S.A. VULCAN. STEEL”, and chambers
measured 3 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted
to a casehardened size 000 frame boxlock action which displays
the standard Grade V zig-zag border engraving with “Parker Bros.”
on either side and features double triggers and a tang mounted
automatic safety. The gun is fitted with a lightly figured and
multi-point checkered splinter forend and a round knob pistol
grip stock with blank silver inscription shield and Parker dog’s
head buttplate. The above grade, gauge, barrel length, stock
type, and ejectors are confirmed on page 585 of “Parker Gun
Identification & Serialization” by Price and Fjestad. Barrel and
stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the
breech .413/.410 inches; choke constriction .016/.014 inches; 1
7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/2 inch drop at heel; 13 11/16 inch
length of pull; slight cast-on; weight 5 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 98% original blue finish
on the barrels, original blue on the inside of the triggerguard
with the balance a grey/brown patina, and 60% original case
colors with the balance a fine silver patina speckled with
brown. The metal shows some minor handling evidence, a few
scratches at the muzzle, and some very minor freckling. The wood
shows some scratches, light pressure marks, and mostly crisp
checkering. Mechanically excellent. A great chance to own one of
these rare American small bore shotguns!
