Attractive Randall Model Twelve “North America 75-06” Continents Series Bear Bowie Knife with Tom Leschorn
Engraved Furniture, Carved and Inlaid Grip, Tooled Sheath, and Verification Certificate - Per the included certificate
from N. P. (Pete) Hamilton, this knife was manufactured around 1974, with the carving and engraving work performed by Tom
Leschorn in 1978, the first of a limited number of engravers employed directly by Randall. This Bear Bowie is decorated as the
North American representative in the “Continents” set, a special order grouping of seven Bear Bowies and one Miniature Bear
Bowie first proposed in the early 1970s by George Georgieoff. The set reportedly used the first set of stainless Bear-pattern
blades made by Randall, with the blades, guards and grips made by Randall, Georgieoff supplying the nickel silver barstock
for the pommels, and Leschorn doing the engraving and carving. Each full sized Bear was engraved for a continent and bears
two inlaid representative animal carvings on the grips, and the Miniature Bear representing Earth as a whole with Adam and
Eve represented in the carvings. 13 inches in overall length, with a 7 3/4 inch stainless steel clip point blade with the Randall
address and “S” on the left side, and “NORTH AMERICA/75-06” on the right. The dual branch guard and flanged pommel are
finely scroll engraved, and the rosewood grip is done in fine oak leaf carving with a diving eagle in the left panel and a buffalo
on the right, and the pommel signed “CARVED BY/T.W. LESCHORN/4/78/FRBKS., AK”. The included Randall “12 8” marked sheath
is decorated on the face with fine floral tooling.
CONDITION: Excellent, with minor spotting on the blade and minimal handling marks overall. The decoration is all finely
executed, with especially sharp detail in the animal inlays.
Estimate: 6,000 - 10,000
