Outstanding Alvin White Signed and Master Engraved Post-World
War II Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory
Letter - Serial no. 290542-C, 45 ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut grips. The included factory letter lists this pistol in .45 caliber
with a 5 inch barrel and “in-the-white” state for engraving outside of
the factory as well as the type of stocks not listed when it was the only
gun of this type in a shipment to noted collector Herb Glass on January
21, 1963. It was subsequently engraved by Master Engraver Alvin A.
White. It features fixed blade front and notch rear sights, a blued barrel
marked with “M” and “P” on the left of the recoil lug, squared “C” on the
right of the recoil lug, and “P” on the underside, two-block, two-line
model and caliber markings on the left of the slide with Rampant Colt,
one-line Colt address on the right of the slide, serial number on the
right of the frame along with 50% plus coverage floral scroll pattern
engravings with punch-dot back drops performed by Master Engraver
Alvin White, with his “AAW” signature
mark on the grip frame under the
right grip panel. The right side of the
trigger guard is marked “0”, with “E”
and “8” on the left side. Masterfully
embellished Fitted with a pair of
checkered walnut grips and a blued
magazine with “COLT/.45 AUTO” marked on the underside of the base.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as masterfully embellished by Alvin
White, retaining 99% plus bright high polish blue finish with limited
handling marks, limited spotting visible on top of the magazine release,
along with crisp engravings and grip checkering.
Mechanically excellent.
