Attractive Factory Engraved Colt New Service
Double Action Revolver with Steer Head Carved
Ivory Grip and Box - Serial no. 225128, 45 Long Colt cal., 5 1/2 inch
round bbl., blue finish, original carved ivory grips. This stunning
factory engraved revolver was manufactured in 1919. This revolver
appears to have been engraved by Wilbur A. Glahn who started
engraving at Colt around 1919 and died in 1951. On page 584 of
“The Colt Engraving Book Volume Two”, R. L. Wilson wrote, “Colt
ledgers show less than seventy-five engraved...” We were informed
this example does not appear in the available records. It has a six-
pointed star is marked just above the rear of the trigger guard on the
right confirming this revolver was returned to the factory, and it was
presumably engraved at that time by Glahn. The engraving consists of
foliate scrollwork with matted backgrounds as well as some geometric
designs on the butt around the lanyard loop and on
the front of the frame.
