Excellent Documented Duluth, Minnesota
Shipped Colt New Service 38-40 WCF
Double Action Revolver with Pearl Grips
and Factory Letter - Serial no. 329048, 38
WCF cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish,
pearl grips. Per the included factory letter, this revolver
was sold as a single item to Scorlett Motor Sales of
Duluth, Minnesota, to be shipped via the Marshall-
Wells Hardware Company of Duluth on August 17, 1937,
noted as being in “.38/40” caliber, 5 1/2 inch barrel, nickel
finish and “Not Listed” grips. No information is available on
Scorlett Motor Sales, and it is unknown if this was intended
as a defensive weapon for the company or a more personal
purchase. Marshall-Wells Hardware, like many hardware
concerns prior to 1968, included firearms in their inventory,
including items like Registered Magnums and Thompson
Submachine Guns. Fixed sights, with the two-line address
and patent markings on top of the barrel, model and caliber
markings on the left, “VP” and “3” on the left side of the
triggerguard, “Rampant Colt” on the sideplate, and smooth
pearl grips.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 98% original nickel finish, showing minor scratches and dings
overall and minor frosting. The grips are slightly oversized but otherwise excellent, with
minor handling marks and attractive color. Mechanically excellent.

Colt New Service Model Double Action
Revolver with Factory Letter - Serial no.
351157, 45 Long Colt cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl.,
blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1940, the
included factory letter confirms the current configuration
including the 5 1/2 inch barrel in .45 caliber, blue finish,
and type of grips not listed, when sent in a lone shipment
to The Abercrombie & Fitch Company in New York, New
York, on November 25, 1940. The factory letter also notes that the
records contained the notation “A.C.” in regards to this revolver, the
meaning of which is currently unknown. Features fixed blade front
and matted topstrap notch rear sights, standard Colt address mark
on top of the barrel with the model and caliber listed on the left,
Rampant Colt stamp on the left of the frame, along with “triangle/
VP” and “Y” on the left of the trigger guard. Matching serial
numbers on the frame and crane. Fitted with a pair of checkered
walnut grips with silver Colt medallion inserts and a lanyard loop at the base of the grip frame.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 97% plus original bright blue finish with some minor cylinder drag
lines, some fading/freckling on the lanyard loop, a few minor handling marks, and clear roll-marks. The
grips are also excellent with some slight verdigris on the fittings, a small chip on the lower front end of
the right panel, and crisp checkering otherwise. Mechanically excellent. Overall an excellent example of
a Colt New Service revolver with an included factory letter!

LOT 153
Excellent Pre-World War II Colt Police Positive Double Action Revolver with Box
and Factory Letter - Serial no. 350384, 38 special cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured
in 1927. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was shipped to George Worthington Company of
Cleveland, Ohio, on May 6, 1927, in a three gun shipment and confirms the configuration. Standard two line
address/patent dates on top of barrel, with “POLICE/POSITIVE-38 SPECIAL” on the left side. The Rampant Colt is
stamped behind the cylinder latch. Blade and frame groove sights, and fitted with checkered walnut grips with
silver Colt medallions. Complete with a maroon factory hinged lid box numbered to a different gun.
CONDITION: Excellent. The revolver retains 97% plus original blue finish with some thinning on the right
front of the frame ahead of the cylinder, some minor muzzle wear
and a cylinder drag line. The grips are also excellent with a minor
nick on the left toe, a couple of minor handling marks and sharp
checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is excellent with some
of the ends labels flaked off.

Colt New Service Target Model Double
Action Revolver in .44 Russian with Factory
Letter - Serial no. 7726, 44 Russian cal., 7 1/2 inch
round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured
in 1902, the included factory letter confirms the
revolver’s configuration, including a seven and one half
inch long barrel in .44 Russian, blue finish, and type of grips
not listed, when sent in a lone shipment to Clapp & Treat
in Hartford, Connecticut, on December 23, 1902. Features
elevation adjustable blade front and windage adjustable notch
rear sights, the two-line Colt address and patent dates roll-marked on top of the barrel with the
model and caliber designations on the left side, Rampant Colt surrounded by “COLT’S/NEW
SERVICE” on the left of the frame, checkered grip straps, and “8” on the right side of the trigger
guard. Matching serial numbers on the frame and crane. Fitted with a pair of checkered
walnut grips with matching “7726” serial numbers written on the interiors in pencil.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 75% faded original blue finish with some scattered light edge wear, light cylinder
drag lines, thinning on the grip straps with smooth grey and brown patinas, some light scratches focused mostly
on the right side, a few small spots of freckling, and some light handling marks. The grips are exceptionally
fine with a few minor compression marks in the
otherwise well-defined checkering. Mechanically
excellent.
