frame under the grip has “H/JH”, “S”, and “B802” on the front strap section
as well as “F”, 6”, “G”, “, “5”, “802”, “11”, and “1” on the back strap section. In
addition to the engraving, it features two-piece ivory grips with silver Colt
medallions and a steer head carved on the right. The back side of the grips
are marked “VIIII”. It comes in a reproduction hinged box numbered to a
different gun and featuring the right configuration end label along with a
large “ENGRAVED” label on top and a smaller “ivory” label.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine with 98% plus blue finish remaining, minor
edge wear and cylinder drag lines, and crisp engraving and markings. The
grips are very fine and display an attractive aged patina, light grain, minor
age lines and handling wear, and crisp carving. Mechanically excellent. The
box is very good with a hole on bottom, a few repairs, mild storage wear,
and fine labels. This is certainly an extraordinary example of Colt’s iconic
New Service with beautiful engraving and carved grip.
