Jan Gwinnell Signed Factory Master Engraved and Gold Inlaid Colt Serial
Number “SAA” Single Action Army Revolver with Ivory Grips, Case, and Factory Letter - Serial no. SAA, 45 cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., royal blue/gold finish, ivory grips. The included factory letters (both from 1983) confirm
the current .45 caliber, 7 1/2 inch barrel, blue finish, ivory grips, and factory class “C” engraving when the revolver was shipped to Universal Firearms Ltd./DBA Bells Gun & Sport Shop of Franklin Park, IL, on June 25, 1982. In addition
to the gorgeous factory class “C” scroll engraving, the revolver features highly attractive gold accents, also described in the letters. They are described as: “One flush gold barrel band, one gold cylinder band, flush gold line around
cylinder flutes, royal blue and gold finish, gold plated base pin, trigger, and ejector rod head.” The gold work beautifully accents the engraving and creates a stunning contrast with the Royal Blue finish. All of the fine factory
embellishment was carried out by Master Engraver Jan Gwinnell, who has signed the piece on the left side of the butt beneath the grip. Includes Colt Custom Shop pamphlets and catalogs, a reprinted Colt Catalog for 1888, original
box end label (detached), a pair of Colt patches, and documents pertaining to the ordering and receipt of the revolver from Colt. Including a correspondence with noted author and Colt Collector Don Wilkerson. Also includes a
factory hardwood display case which is also listed in the letter.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% original blue and gold finishes with minor handling evidence,
slight plum hue on the triggerguard, and crisp engraving. The grips are very fine with some light age
lines. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with minor storage wear.
Provenance: J. H. Bannon; Private Collection.
