and Gold Inlaid Third Generation
Colt Single Action Army Revolver
with Carved Ivory Grips and Box -
Serial no. S33785A, 45 Colt cal., 5 1/2
inch round bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, carved ivory grips. The included factory letter confirms the current caliber,
finish, barrel length, grips, and factory class “C” engraving with 24K gold inlaid bands when the revolver was shipped in a
single gun shipment to Dennis Hardware Inc. of Fenton, Missouri, on August 14, 2002, for The Hunting & Shooting Sports
Heritage Foundation. The letter also states that Colt donated the revolver for the “Shooting for the Future” event at Grant’s
Farm in St. Louis, MO, as well as confirming the embellishment was carried out by Adams Custom Engravers and Doug
Turnbull Restorations. The letter also mentions a presentation case, which is not present. This beautiful revolver features
dual gold inlaid bands at the muzzle and breech which encompass the highly attractive scroll engraving surrounding
the factory markings on the barrel. The scroll extends to the frame, trigger guard, grip straps, and cylinder which displays
another pair of gold inlaid bands at the rear. The revolver is signed “Adams” on the underside of the barrel just ahead of
the cylinder pin for American Master Engravers John Adams Sr. and John Adams Jr. The revolver is fitted with a set of ivory
grips, with the right panel smooth, and the left panel displaying the Grant’s Farm motif of a carved scene showing a Gatling
gun in front of a log cabin. Includes a letter from John Adams Sr. listing the work done by both himself and his son on the
revolver, that the finishes were done by Doug Turnbull Restorations, and also stating that the work was donated for this
project. Also includes an unnumbered Colt blue box.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue, casehardened, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence,
crisp engraving, and defined grip carving. Mechanically excellent. The box is very fine.

Plaque - 1) Rampant Colt bronze, approximately
17 inches tall, depicting the classic Colt emblem of
the unbroken horse rampant atop a globe, with the globe
bearing a faint signature on the rear. Mounted on a hardwood plinth. 2) Display plaque, engraved brass
panel on a wood base, commemorating Jim Eplen receiving the Colt Collector’s Association 2017 All
Colt Show Best of Show for an exhibit titled “A Few 44’s: Colt’s Holster Revolvers”.
CONDITION: 1) Very fine, with minor handling marks and an attractive patina. 2) Fair. The brass panel has
partially slipped off the base.

Single Action Army Revolver for the 1993 Las Vegas Antique Arms Auction, Serial Number
“RAMPANT1”, with Enlarged Ivory Grips and Factory Letter - Serial no. RAMPANT1, 45 Long Colt
cal., 4 1/4 inch round bbl., blue/gold finish, original ivory grips. Manufactured c. 1991-1992. The included
factory letter confirms this revolver’s configuration, including the special serial number, 4 1/4 inch barrel in .45 caliber,
royal blue finish, ivory grips, and custom Class “D” engraving with gold inlays performed by Colt Master Engraver Jan Gwinnell,
and furnished with a long grip configuration, when auctioned to the highest bidder of the 1993 Las Vegas Antique Arms Show,
sold to a Mr. Paul Vanderlinder, and shipped to Clearfield, Utah, on March 5, 1993, under Colt Custom Shop order number 4431.
Features fixed blade front and top-strap notch rear sights, the two-line Colt address roll-marked on top of the barrel,
the model and caliber designation roll-marked on the left, the two-line Colt patent dates with Rampant Colt on the left of the
frame, Colt “triangle/VP” and “C” factory proofs marked on the left side of the trigger guard, and an enlarged grip frame. The
revolver also features extensive custom Class “D” engraving across the frame, cylinder, and barrel, with mostly floral pattern
scroll with punch-dot backdrops along with “horseshoe” motifs across the top strap and cylinder, along with
two gold inlaid bands on the barrel and ejector housing, two gold inlaid bands on the rear of the cylinder, two
raised gold inlaid “fighting Rampant Colts” in the left of the recoil shield, and the serial number “RAMPANT/1”
gold inlaid on the bottom of the frame. “Engr. Jan G.” signed on the right of the grip frame. Fitted with enlarged
two piece smooth ivory grips with matching numbered interiors.
CONDITION: Excellent plus overall as factory engraved and gold inlaid by Colt Master Engraver Jan Gwinnell,
retaining 99% plus original blue finish and brilliant gold inlays, with limited handling evidence, crisp engravings,
detailed fighting Rampant Colts on the recoil shield, and sharp gold inlays. The ivory grips are also excellent with attractive cream
striations. Mechanically untested. Overall an outstanding and very attractive, one-of-a-kind Colt Custom Shop engraved and gold inlaid
Single Action Army Revolver with an enlarged grip frame and ivory grips!
