Produced four years before America’s entry into
World War II, this pistol shows near full coverage
of Wilbur Glahn’s beautiful floral scroll engraving,
even including the right side of the magazine
release, the slide catch, and the barrel bushing.
The left side of the matching numbered slide is
marked with the standard two-line Colt address
and patent dates ending in 1913, while the
right side of the slide has the standard National
Match, Colt, and caliber markings, with both sets
of markings completely surrounded by elegant
scrollwork. The right side of the frame has the
standard Government Model marking over the
serial number, and the left of the trigger guard
is marked with “P/VP”, while the right is marked
“60”. The barrel is blued with a polished chamber
hood and is marked “COLT 45 AUTO MATCH” on
the lower left, with a circled “MB” on the left of the
lug. It is fitted with a blade front sight that has a
serrated rear face and an adjustable notch rear
sight. The wide hammer, thumb safety, slide stop,
and arched mainspring housing are all checkered.
It is also fitted with an attractive pair of smooth
ivory grips. The two-tone magazine is marked
“COLT/45 AUTO” on the base. Includes a very
attractive leather holster lined with buckskin with
a full size German silver plate on the body that
has been embossed with detailed rose vines and
flowers with a punchdot background.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% of the original
blue finish with some light holster/handling wear
and a few scattered patches of light oxidation,
a strong indication this pistol was carried on a
limited basis as a sidearm, most likely by a Texas
lawman. The grips are exceptionally fine with
some scattered light handling marks, fine age-
lines on the right panel, and an attractively aged
tone overall. Mechanically excellent. These “C”
level, Wilbur Glahn factory engraved Colt National
Match pistols are an extreme rarity, don’t miss this
opportunity to add a Texas shipped example to
your collection!
