Excellent and Desirable First Year
Production Houston, Texas Shipped
Pre-World War II Colt Super 38 Semi-
Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter
- Serial no. 3251, 38 Super Auto cal., 5 inch
round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Per the
included factory letter, this Super 38 was one
of three shipped to the Texas Sporting Goods
Company of Houston, Texas, on July 16th, 1929,
the introductory year for the model, with the
letter verifying the caliber, barrel length and finish, and “Not Listed” grips. A
variant of the Colt Government Model, the Super 38 was sought out by officers
of the law who felt the smaller, faster round would perform better against the
automobile bodies and primitive body armor of the day. This particular Super
38 has been Colt-King upgraded, with a King marked blade front sight with
red highlight panel, a light reflector inlaid into the slide itself, and a dovetailed
windage adjustable square notch rear sight with white highlight, and internally
the feed ramp and throat have been polished. Standard markings are present on
the matching numbered slide, with an unmarked barrel, “1/VP” and “20” marked
triggerguard, checkered grips and a two-tone magazine.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, with 90% plus original blue finish, showing some
minor spotting, edge wear and light handling marks. Grips are fine, with moderate
wear and scuffs. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500
