LOT 388
Documented U.S. Army 101st
Aviation Brigade Issued SIG
Sauer M17 Semi-Automatic
Pistol with Box and U.S. Army
FOIA Letter - Serial no. TF004211, 9x19mm
cal., 4 3/4 inch round bbl., coyote PVD/black finish, plastic
grips. This pistol is one of many that were issued out to U.S.
Army in late 2017, with roughly 3,000 later returned to SIG Sauer and made available
for sale on the commercial market. Selected by the U.S. military in January 2017 as
the winner of the Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition to replace the Beretta
M9 series. The M17 is a variant of SIG Sauer’s P320 line of striker-fired, semi-automatic
pistols, which utilize a serialized fire control unit (FCU) that can be readily swapped
between grip frames of differing size, with the M17’s FCU also incorporating a bilateral
thumb safety. Features illuminated night sights, an optic mounting point machined
into the top of the slide, an extra weight recoil spring, coyote colored polymer grip
unit marked size “M” on the backstrap and the faintly painted inventory number
“22” on the left side, along with coyote PVD finish on the slide and some of the
metal components. Includes a matching numbered SIG Sauer shipping box dated “18-DEC-2019” identifying the pistol as “UDM17-9-SURPLUS”, along with two extra magazines, an
extra recoil spring assembly, “M17” marked user’s manual, and an action lock. Also included is a Freedom of Information Act response letter from the U.S. Department of the Army, listing the pistol by serial number as issued to the
Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on December 17, 2017, and was later turned in to the Fort Campbell Logistics Readiness Center by the Headquarters and
Headquarters Company, 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Brigade on May 6, 2019. This pistol is also two digits off from another FOIA documented U.S. Army issued SIG Sauer M17 pistol in this auction, Lot 1324.
CONDITION: Very fine as a U.S. Army issued M17 service pistol, retaining 90% plus original coyote PVD and black finishes with darkening on the right side of the slide, some mild holster pattern edge wear, minor cycling wear, and a
few light handling marks and scrapes. The grip module is fine with scattered mild scuffs on the textured grip, hinting at the extent of this pistol’s use in its window of service. Mechanically excellent. The box is very fine.
Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
