Spectacular Well-Documented Presentation Cased Colt Model 1855 7A “Root” Percussion Pocket Revolver, Formerly of
The William Locke Collection and The U.S. Cartridge Company Collection - Serial no. 13876, 31 cal., 4 1/2 inch round bbl.,
blue finish, varnished walnut grips. This .31 caliber Model 7A variant of Colt’s Model 1855 “Root” revolver series was manufactured
in 1869, with approximately 2,925 of the 7 and 7A variant revolvers made in the same approximate 11075-14000 serial range, per
page 155 of “The Book of Colt Firearms” (1971 publication) by Sutherland and Wilson. The Model 7A has a 4 1/2 inch barrel length,
whereas the 7 variant differs only in that it has a 3 1/2 inch barrel, and both of these differ from the previous models in that they
have a cylinder pin retained by a distinctive screw through the side of the cylinder. Features the two-line New York barrel address,
cylinder with the Stagecoach Holdup scene, and “31 CAL” marked on the right side of the frame beneath the hammer. Matching
visible serial number marked on the barrel, cylinder, and butt. “1529” inventory stamp of the U.S. Cartridge Company Collection
on the right of the grip. This exact revolver is featured on page 127 of “The William M. Locke Collection” book, where its serial
number is erroneously listed as serial number “13867” although the U.S. Cartridge Company inventory stamp can be seen on the
right of the grip. Includes a deluxe partitioned rosewood presentation case with brass corners and a shield shaped medallion,
with a red felt lined interior containing an array of proper accessories, with a “COLT’S/PATENT” marked powder flask, blued two-
cavity bullet mold with “31 PKT” on the side and “COLT’S/PATENT” on the sprue cutter, an “L” shaped combination tool, an “L”
shaped screwdriver, Eley Bros cap tin, three 5-count packs of .31 caliber combustible Colt Pocket cartridges, key, and lead balls.
