     in production and is likely chambered for the .45 2 4/10 cartridge (.45-90). It has a windgauge globe front sight, the usual Old Reliable and Bridgeport address markings, nickel plated action with hard
rubber “jet” panels, knurled trigger, long ranger Vernier peep sight, multi-point checkered forearm and pistol grip stock (appear to be English walnut), contrasting forend tip, hard rubber grip cap, and
a casehardened Swiss buttplate with lightening grooves and holes and a trapdoor compartment and hollowed out buttstock to lighten the weight to 11 lbs. 3.2 oz. Matching numbers are found on the barrel, forearm, and action.
CONDITION: Extremely fine with 85% plus original blue finish on the barrel, 85% plus original nickel plating on the action, light original case colors on the breechblock
and buttplate, and minor overall wear. The stock and forearm are very fine and have some attractive grain, light wear on the otherwise crisp checkering, and general minor marks and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This is both a very attractive and rare panel side Sharps Borchardt Long Range Rifle. Estimate: 11,000 - 16,000
    with Desirable Stevens-Pope Barrel - Serial no. 29081, 28 cal., 30 inch part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened/nickel finish, walnut stock. This rifle was originally manufactured c. 1881-1891 by the Marlin
Firearms Company and later outfitted with a Stevens-Pope
barrel from the early 1900s. The Stevens-Pope barrels were manufactured c. 1901-1907. The barrel has a windgauge globe
front sight, “STEVENS-POPE.MANUFACTURED BY THE J. STEVENS ARMS & TOOL CO. CHICOPEE FALLS. MASS. U.S.A.” between the two scope mounting blocks,
and “P/980” and “18/141” on the underside. The upper tang has a Vernier peep
sight. The left side of the frame is marked “MARLIN FIRE ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A./BALLARD’S. PATENT. NOV. 5. 1861.” The frame has fine scroll engraving with
lined backgrounds, heart borders, and vignettes of a stag and doe. The rifle is equipped with adjustable double set triggers and a spurred finger loop lever with a wood cover on the spur that can
serve as a palm rest. The Schuetzen style stock and forearm have multi-point checkering, a horn forend tip, swept cheek-rest, and nickel Swiss buttplate with knurling.
CONDITION: Fine with 85% plus blue on the period Stevens-Pope replacement barrel, silvered out gray and dark brown patina on the casehardened action along with some oil staining, crisp engraving, 95% plus nickel plating on the buttplate, and general mild wear. The
wood is also fine and has mostly crisp checkering with worn spots mainly on the forearm wear a palm rest was previously mounted, general light scratches and dings,
small hairline cracks at the junction with the rear of the frame, and small chips on the edge of the forend tip. Mechanically fine. 90 Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000

Scarce Special Order Nickel Action “Panel Side” Sharps Model 1878 Borchardt Long Range Rifle with Swiss Buttplate - Serial no. 17177, 45 cal., 34 1/4 inch round bbl., blue/nickel/casehardened finish, checkered walnut stock. The Model 1878 Long Range Rifles were manufactured from October 1877 to May 1880, and production totaled only 230 with a fair amount of variation from rifle to rifle. They are among the finest single shot
target rifles ever made and have a reputation for accuracy. This special order rifle is from later
