Unique Documented Prototype William Chase Single
Shot Pistol in .22 Short Attributed as Presented to Allan P. Ford - Serial no. 2, 22 short cal., 8 inch part octagon bbl., nickel finish, smooth grips. Included documentation from the consignor
indicates that this pistol was manufactured by William Chase, the grandson of Anson Chase, who was a pivotal figure in the development of Colt revolvers. The documentation states that is one of only two examples made, one
being kept by Chase, and this example being gifted to Allen P. Ford (1867-1955). The documentation states that Ford bequeathed
the pistol to his grandson Curtis H. Barker III, who then passed it on to his heir, Rusty Barker, who sold the pistol to the consignor.
The pistol itself is marked “22 SHORT” on top of the barrel at the breech, and the rear sight is marked “2” and “CHASE”. The left side of the
barrel at the breech and hammer are also marked “2”, and there are various numbers and letters marked on screw heads and the frame, likely for ease of disassembly/assembly. It has blade front and adjustable notch rear sights,
and a pair of smooth grips.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% plus of the original nickel finish with a
small patch of flaking on the rear sight and some scattered light handling
marks. The grips are also very fine with some light handling marks scattered
throughout. Mechanically excellent.
