Griffin & Howe Game Scene Engraved
Custom Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle with
Zeiss Scope - Serial no. 271725, 308 Win cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Built on a 1953
manufactured Winchester Model 70 action which was subsequently upgraded by Griffin & Howe. Blued barrel
with hooded ramped beaded blade front sight surrounded by scroll engraving, “No. 2239 GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK”
marked on top, flip up rear sight, and band of engraving at the breech. The action has a gold inlaid serial number, still visible “WP”
proof, rear peep sight base, and engraved Griffin & Howe scope mount holding a Zeiss scope. The floorplate is also engraved in the style of J. Fuggar, showing
a hunter grabbing for his rifle at the appearance of a bear in a forest scene and a big horn ram on the trigger guard. Lightly figured, multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with horn forend tip, engraved steel grip cap, raised cheek piece, sling studs, gold inscription oval marked “S.R.H”, and checkered steel trapdoor buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine as upgraded to current configuration, retaining
90% Griffin & Howe applied blue finish, remaining with wear visible on
the trigger guard, minor handling evidence on the balance, a few tiny
scratches in the wood, and sharp stock checkering. The scope optics are
clear with a few blemishes. Mechanically excellent.

Finely Engraved Griffin & Howe Mauser Bolt Action Sporting Rifle in .416 Rigby with Scope - Serial no. 2269, 416
Rigby cal., 23 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This rifle was built by Griffin & Howe on an unmarked square bridge
magnum Mauser action. Blued barrel with hooded ramped beaded blade front sight , front sling stud, “No. 2269 GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW
YORK, N.Y.” marked on the top of the barrel, and rear quarter rib with two folding leaves (100 and 200 yards) with gold inlaid center lines. The action features a Griffin & Howe scope mount holding a Lyman All-American 2 1/2x scope , a jeweled bolt body, and knurled knob. The bottom metal has been engraved in the style of J. Fuggar with handsome scroll designs. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered Schnabel tip pistol grip stock with casehardened reinforcing bolt, engraved trapdoor grip cap, raised cheek piece, oval gold plaque with initials, and Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% Griffin & Howe applied blue with a few tiny
spots of speckling and minor handling evidence. The wood is very fine with a
few tiny dings and scratches and sharp checkering. The scope optics are clear.
Mechanically excellent.
