similar inlaid panels and engraving. The brass furniture also has scroll engraving, raised relief silver busts, and floral accents, and an iron belt hook is fitted on the left. The well figured stock
has very attractive relief carved floral and scroll patterns, and the button on top of the wrist allows the stock to fold.
CONDITION: Fine with silver-gray patina on the iron, minor pitting, aged patina on the brass and silver, worn
bust details but mostly crisp designs otherwise, and mild overall wear. The stock is also fine and has crisp carving, some cracks and repairs mainly at the ramrod entry-point, minor chips, and general mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.

Extremely Rare Pair of Engraved Dutch Jean Herman Flintlock Cavalry Carbines -A) Jean Herman Flintlock Carbine - NSN, 32 Bore
cal., 16 1/2 inch octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Dating to circa 1680-
1700, this rare pair of early cavalry carbines have swamped octagon barrels with
seven-groove rifling, brass blade front sights, and notch rear sights. The rounded locks have floral
scroll engraving with mask elements and “IEAN*HERMAN” signatures. Jan Hermans (sometimes engraved
as Jean Herman) is recorded as a Maastricht maker in the late 17th century. The carbines have adjustable double
set triggers. The furniture is iron. The forend caps and lock screw washers are horn. The “paddle butt” stocks have sliding
wooden patchboxes marked “130” and “131” inside, nicely shaped cheekpieces with scroll carving, shaped flats, and rounded heels and buttplates with long pointed tangs.
CONDITION: Fine with silver-gray patina, distinct engraving, minor pitting, and general age and storage related wear. The stock is
also good and has some cracks and repairs, a few minor chips, several dings and scratches, and general moderate wear. Mechanically fine. B) Jean Herman Flintlock Carbine - NSN, 32 Bore cal., 16 1/2 inch octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. See “A.”

Attractive Engraved and Relief Carved Italian “Wolf Killer” Flintlock Blunderbuss with Elliptical Muzzle and Folding Stock - NSN, 12 gauge, 20 1/8

These mid-18th century blunderbusses with folding stocks, belt hooks, and elliptical muzzles were reportedly nicknamed “wolf killers” by the Sicilians and others in Italy.
