LOT 1391
Excellent Swiss Bern Model 06/24 Luger Semi-
Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 30030, 7.65 mm Luger
Auto cal., 4 3/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut
grips. Switzerland was the first country to adopt the
Luger as a military sidearm with its contract purchase of
the Model 1900 from DWM. Once WWI started DWM could
no longer supply Switzerland with Lugers, so the Swiss firm of Waffenfabrik
Bern produced its own version of the Model 1906. This pistol is one of the Swiss
made copies of the German Model 1906. Approximately 17,000 of these pistols
were manufactured for the Swiss military and were most likely produced between
1918 and 1933. This Luger has fixed sights, with a blank chamber and the top of
the toggle marked with a Geneva Cross over “WAFFENFABRIK/BREN”. The right side of
the barrel extension has a small Geneva Cross with the reverse having a boxed “+/M”
Colonel Muhlemann proof and a “BP”. Full serial number on barrel and front of frame
with a small Geneva Cross on the barrel and the letter “P” stamped below frame serial
number. Side plate, grip safety, and toggle link are numbered to the gun. The lower safety lever area is polished bright (a common feature for this type of Luger). The grips are unique in that they are checkered with smooth borders on the front and rear edges and are numbered to the gun. With a correct wooden base magazine numbered (70).
CONDITION: Excellent. The pistol retains 98% original blue finish showing some thinning to a brown patina (more prevalent on the grip straps) with slight edge wear. The small parts retain
97% original straw color. The grips are
also excellent with a few minor
nicks in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,250
