Documented, Attractive, Special Order Silver Plated, Swiss Buttplate Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter -
Serial no. 303502, 32 W.S. cal., 26 inch part octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1906, this special order Winchester Model 1894
has quite the interesting documented history. The included factory letter (copy) states that it was originally received at the warehouse on 26 May 1906 and shipped the same day in order number 54426 as a rifle in .32 W.S. caliber with a special order half octagon barrel and a plain trigger. The factory letter goes
on to state that it was returned on 19 June 1906 as order number 7019 and received a checkered pistol grip stock, Swiss buttplate and silver trimmings. This work performed upon its return corresponds with the current, very attractive, configuration of the rifle. The special order half octagon barrel is marked with the standard two-line address and patent dates as well as the caliber marking on the top flat, with an importer mark visible on the bottom ahead of the forend cap. There are Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The three-line model and trademark information are on the upper tang and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left side of the lower tang is marked “903 XX” and “903” is repeated in the stock inlet. “1034” is stamped on the butt of the stock under the buttplate. It is fitted with a No. 21 German silver blade front sight, a No. 64A .32 W.S. rear sight, and a special order button magazine. It is mounted with a finely figured, H-pattern checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber grip cap and a Swiss buttplate. The receiver, nosecap, and buttplate all have the special order silver plated finish detailed in the factory letter.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 85% plus of the high polish factory blue finish, the balance having thinned on edges to a smooth grey patina, 97% plus of the factory refurbished silver plating which shows a very attractive slightly aged tone, and 85% of the vibrant original case colors. The wood is fine with some scattered minor chipping/flaking of the varnish and some scattered minor handling marks, and otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. An incredibly attractive, documented, factory silver plated Winchester Model 1894 rifle that you do not want to miss!
Provenance: The Wayne Connor Collection.
Estimate: 14,000 - 22,500
