 LOT 3315
Excellent and Desirable Mauser Persian Contract Model 1934 Artillery Luger Semi-
Automatic Pistol Rig with Shoulder Stock - NSN, 9 mm cal., 8 inch round bbl., blue finish,
hardwood grips. Part of a contract order placed in 1934, the Persian government reached
out to Mauser for a grouping of Luger service pistols, with 1,000 in the “lange”(long)/Artillery configuration. Overall configuration is comparable to a late World War I German Army Artillery Luger, with the Persian “lion” crest” on top of the chamber, “crown” and “crown/crown/U” proofs on the appropriate parts, and all other markings in Farsi, including the serial number (3169). Some components (like the grips and magazine base) are unnumbered, otherwise parts are matching overall. Fitted with straw colored small parts and a set of checkered hardwood grips. A stock rig is included, consisting of a hardwood board stock (iron unnumbered), a brown leather holster, leather magazine pouch, shoulder strap, takedown tool and barrel rod.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 90% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown and gray patina, bright edge wear, and minor spotting and handling marks overall. About 50% of the original straw colors are present, with the remainder turning a smooth gray, and the grips are also very fine with some stains and flat spots. Mild dents and scratches are present on the otherwise fine stock, with some cracking, lost stitching, and repairs on the leather components. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 4,500 - 6,500
2,000 Luger pistols were ordered by the Persian Government in 1934. Only 1,000 were produced with the artillery length barrel and the other 1,000 were produced with the standard barrel length.
LOT 3316
Very Scarce Persian Contract 1936 Mauser Luger Semi-Automatic
Pistol with Elaborate Case - NSN, 9 mm cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut grips. Manufactured circa 1935-1936 on contract for the government
of Persia in both “P.08” and “Artillery” configurations, in limited quantity of
1,000 of each configuration. Only a limited number of these Persian Lugers
have been seen on the American market. Fixed sights, with the Persian Lion
on the chamber, “crown/crown/U” and “crown” proofs, British commercial
proofing on the underside of the barrel, right side of the receiver and
frame, and on top of the toggle links, and straw finished small parts. The
barrel is numbered “2159” in Farsi and the extension “6155”, with the “55”
repeated on many components in the “military” pattern, unnumbered grips
and a “3850” marked magazine. Fitted with a pair of checkered grips and
a nickel finished alloy base magazine. Included with the pistol is a custom
hardwood case with fine inlaid mosaic style decoration, a brass barrel rod, and 50-rounds of Persian headstamped ammo in a box with reproduction Persian label.
CONDITION: Fine, with 75% of the original blue finish, showing a mixed brown and gray patina on the barrel and gripstraps, bright edge wear, minor dings and some light spotting. On some of the mixed numbered components (such as the receiver, frame, sear and takedown lever) the last digit of the serial number appears to be stamped over a Farsi “9”. The grips are good, with some chips and an internal crack in the left panel, and a crack near the grip screw in the right panel. The case is very good, with some light stains and handling marks. The toggle hinge is stiff, otherwise mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 3,500 - 4,500
