German Flintlock Jaeger Rifle with Scrimshaw Decorated Stock and Leonhard Wenger Signed and 1629 Dated Barrel -
NSN, 12 cal., 28 1/4 inch octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This rifle stylistically matches a number of examples from the Salm Armory and dates to the late
 17th century with the gunsmith making use of an earlier barrel. The barrel has nine-groove rifling, a blade front sight that can be removed by sliding it forward, large “dished” rear sight
with decorative finials, “LEONHAR[maker’s mark] D WENGER” on top at the breech, “1-6” on the upper left, “2-9” on the upper right, border engraving at the breech, and a short tang. The lock
has floral engraving, double line borders, and no markings. The ramrod entry pipe, trigger guard, scrolling side plate, pierced escutcheon, and buttplate are iron. The remaining furniture is
staghorn or bone and is engraved with scroll, floral, and bestial engraving patterns. The left side of the stock has the Salm family mark consisting of a pair of salmon. The Princes zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck had a
large arms collection in their armoury, and this rifle was part of the sale of their arms in 1992. The patchbox contains the family brass collection tag numbered “259”.
CONDITION: Fine overall with mostly polished silver-gray patina on the lock, barrel, and iron furniture; mild pitting in some of the recessed areas, crisp markings and engraving, mostly distinct designs on the inlays and other furniture, some newer components, chipping at the muzzle, some thin cracks and repairs in the stock, and general mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.

Fine Silver Accented Percussion “Wender” Combination Rifle/Shotgun by J. Arnold of Altdorf with Relief Carved Stock - NSN, 54 cal., 27 inch
octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. The rifled barrel has a dovetailed blade front sight, notch rear sight with folding leaf and scroll finial, “1” and “Jo. ARNOLD” in silver inlay at the breech, and a “crown/V” on-hand proof (indicating it was in a shop in the 1890s), and the smoothbore barrel has a dovetailed blade front sight, “2” and “IN ALTDORF” in silver inlay at the breech, and another “crown/V” proof. A mounting point for an absent peep sight is on the top of the wrist. The stock and forend panels have some incised scroll carving and molding, a detailed deer scene on the left side behind the cheek rest, and scroll pattern silver plated brass furniture and accents. The trigger guard pulls back to free the barrel group for rotating. “40” is stamped in the stock ahead of the sling stud.
CONDITION: Fine with 75% original silver plating, a mix of fading original blue finish and dark brown patina on the barrels, traces of
original case colors on the lock and plates below the bolsters, light spotting, and small marks and scratches. The wood is very good
with some gaps at the tail of the forend panels, chip on the lower left corner of the wrist, crisp carving, a few small insect holes,
minor marks and scratches, and some nice figure in the buttstock. Mechanically fine.
Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000
and stock have brass furniture and incised and raised relief scroll carving, including on the patch box lid. CONDITION: Good as reconverted to flintlock configuration with mostly
dark brown patina on the barrels and lock, some mild pitting mainly above the vents, loose cock and barrel assembly fit, attractive aged patina on the brass furniture, and mild overall wear. The wood is also good and has some partially smoothed carving, a repair in the wrist, some cracks and chips, and general minor scratches and dings. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000

was active in Nuremberg, Bavaria, c. 1762-1800. The smoothbore barrel has a silver blade front sight and “1,”“I: HOFFER-IN-NURNBERG:-,” and floral patterns in silver inlay on the breech section along with a sunken silver stag maker’s mark. The rifled barrel has a brass blade front sight and notch rear sight. The back action lock is not marked. The gun is equipped with adjustable single set triggers. The forend panels
