Vega Ballistics M2 60mm Infantry Mortar, Class III/NFA Destructive Device, with Transport Case and Accessories - Serial no. 33054, 60mm , 25 1/2 inch round bbl., green/matte gray finish. Manufactured by the Vega Ballistics Corporation of Paris, Tennessee, this is a commercial production copy of the M2 infantry mortar that saw
the U.S. through World War II, Korea and into Vietnam. A licensed copy of the French 1935 “Brandt”, the M2 operates on similar principles to the WWI Stokes Mortar, where rounds are muzzle loaded and allowed to drop on a fixed firing pin, a setup that is extremely robust, highly effective, and permits an impressive rate
of fire. The main tube is
finished in green, with
the matte gray endcap
marked with 1944-style nomenclature and fitted with a screw-adjustable firing pin. The rectangular baseplate is
finished to match the tube, with the bipod assembly being of brass and green painted steel construction. The included M4 pattern sight comes with a small brown leather case, with a separate battery powered illuminator unit. Included with the mortar is a hardwood storage case with stenciled M2 nomenclature, a cleaning rod, spanner tools, and eight training rounds. The training rounds appear to be deactivated and refurbished mortar bodies
intended for the M224 mortar (the successor to the M2), outfitted with M775 pattern
pyrotechnic impact fuses designed to produce smoke, flash and report on impact
(pyro charges not included), each loaded in an individual storage tube and all packed
in a green steel ammo case.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 95% plus original green finish, showing some light handling
marks and wear. The sight is in good order, and the illuminator untested (battery not
included). Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act
(NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C.
