Factory “OW” Signed and Engraved Gebruder Merkel 20 Gauge Model 47E Boxlock Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 381511, 20 gauge, 26 7/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Blued Krupp Stahl barrels with single brass bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, dual bands of engraving at either breech, 1997 dated German
proofs, chokes marked “VZ”/”1/2”, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The scalloped boxlock action displays light scroll engraving surrounding a pair of game scenes consisting of a trio of quail in a field on the left and a pair of mallards on a pond on the right. The left side of the action is signed
“OW” for the engraver that carried out the work. The gun features factory single selective trigger, bushed firing pins, and a tang mounted automatic safety switch. Highly figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and straight grip stock with
factory buttplate. Includes a leather bound takedown case and a pair of nickel snap caps, nickel oiler, and three-piece cleaning rod. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved and measured at 16.0mm (.630 inches); choke constriction .004/.017 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.027 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 9/16 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 5 oz. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with limited handling evidence and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The case is very fine. The right ejector hammer functions but will not hold at cocked when forend is removed, must be manually cocked to reinstall, otherwise, mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000

chokes (improved cylinder/modified). The coin grey boxlock action displays floral scroll engraving which extends to the toplever and triggerguard. The gun features a single trigger, bushed firing pins, and tang mounted automatic safety. Contrasting straight grained, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings, including the Deeley latch release, and pistol grip stock with black serrated plastic
