Outstanding Consecutive Pair of Venzi and Sanzogni Signed and Master Mythical Theme Relief Engraved FAMARS Sidelock Over/Under Shotguns -A) FAMARS Sidelock Shotgun - Serial no. 868, 12 gauge, 27 1/2 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with a single steel bead sight on the matted vent rib which is marked with a gold “1” at the breech, “abbiatico & salvinelli” (founders of FAMARS) inlaid in gold on the left of the upper barrel, 1988 dated Italian proofs, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The coin finished sidelock action displays outstanding deep cut broad leafy scroll designs surrounding three images of the same cockatrice in different poses on either lockplate and the underside all over a nicely contrasting darkened matted background. The engraving extends to the triggerguard, both tangs, and the toplever which is also marked with a gold inlaid “1”. The triggerplate is signed “S. Venzi & R.. Sanzogni Engr.” The gun features a single trigger, rolled triggerguard, and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “S”. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with matching engraved fittings, including the push button release with a gold inlaid “1” and a straight grip stock with teardrop carved flats, gold initial oval reading “WGT”, and leather covered recoil pad. Includes a leather bound takedown case that houses both the “A” and “B” guns along with spare main springs and firing pins for both. Barrel
and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.4mm (.724 inches) and measured .726/.725 inches; choke constriction .006/.022 inches; minimum wall thickness .026/.022 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 98% plus original blue and 99% original coin finishes with a few small dings along the barrels, otherwise minor handling evidence, some wear to the leather covered recoil pad, and overall sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The case is very fine. Mechanically excellent. B) FAMARS Sidelock Shotgun - Serial no. 869, 12 gauge, 27 1/2 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. As “A” with “2”s in place of “1”s. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.4mm (.724 inches) and measured .727/.725 inches; choke constriction .023/.007 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.029 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 5 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with limited handling evidence, scuffing at the toe of the recoil pad, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. Don’t miss your shot at this outstanding pair from one of Italy’s premier makers!
