LOT 265 Finely Engraved Tanner, Hannover Percussion Side by Side Combination Gun - Serial no. 2378, 20 gauge, 28 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright finish, walnut stock. The left barrel is smoothbore, and the
right barrel is rifled. The rib has a dovetailed German silver blade front sight, blued dovetailed notch rear sight, and “TANNER IN HANNOVER” signed on the breech section.
The locks and furniture are bright and have scroll engraving. “2378” is marked on the bottom of the left barrel and breech plug, and “No 2378” is inscribed on the toe of the buttplate. The right trigger is a single set trigger. The locks included rotating hammer stalls. The stock has a checkered wrist, nice cheekpiece, and a 14 3/8 inch length of pull. CONDITION: Fine with 98% plus of the period refurbished brown
finish and distinct Damascus twist patterns on the barrels, crisp markings and engraving, mostly silver-gray patina on the locks and furniture, and minor overall wear including some faint traces of pitting. The stock is also fine and has crisp checkering, a few small repairs, minor edge wear, a sliver absent along the right side of the forend, and mild scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent. The locks have sunken “TANNER/HANNOVER” maker’s marks, remnants of removed safeties/hammer stalls, bestial designs on the strikers, scroll and floral patterns with animal masks, and game birds. The ramrod entry pipe and trigger plate finials are
pineapple designs. The trigger guard bow has a scene with a pair of dogs and birds, and a reposed dog is on the heel. The wrist escutcheon has the crest of a blood royal. Sling swivels are fitted to the middle ramrod pipe and
trigger plate. The stock has a checkered wrist, shadowline cheekpiece, and 14 inch length of pull. CONDITION: Fine with most of the period refinished brown finish and distinct twist patterns along the barrels, some minor pitting underneath, bright polished locks and furniture, crisp engraving, bright gold, and general minor overall wear. The stock is fine and has repaired chips at the tail of the locks, distinct checkering, and light handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000

Attractive Finely Engraved and Gold Inlaid C.D. Tanner Percussion Double Barrel Shotgun from the Kings of Hanover Gewehrkammer - Serial no. 39, 20 gauge, 30 1/4 inch solid rib bbl., brown/gold/bright finish, walnut stock. This distinctive shotgun is a product of Carl Daniel Tanner (1791- 1858) who served as the Hanoverian hofrustmeister (court armorer) in 1829-1845. This shotgun is identified from
the gewehrkammer (gun room) of the Kings of Hanover at Blankenburg before being moved to Schloss Marienburg in 1945. The browned, Damascus barrels are inlaid with two gold bands at the breech end and have a concave rib fitted with

Silver Inlaid and Raised Relief Carved Percussion Conversion Double Barrel Combination Gun by Grossman in Giessen - NSN, 62 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/silver/grey finish, walnut stock. The right barrel is rifled, and the left barrel is smoothbore. The right trigger is a single set trigger for the rifle barrel. The gun features dovetailed sights and “Grossman in Giessen” in silver inlay surrounded by silver scroll designs. The lock markings are faint. The blued furniture has silver inlays including eagle heads on the trigger guard. The toe plate is a silver tree design. The stock has raised relief carving and molding, including a repose stag in a wooded scene on the patchbox lid and a larger and more detailed scene of a hunter taking aim at a running stag in a wooded scene on the left behind the large cheek rest. CONDITION: Fine with 85% plus of the period refinished blue remaining, aged patina on the silver, gray patina on the locks, crack in the right hammer, and mild overall wear. The stock is also fine and has distinct checkering and carving, a thin crack on the left at the breech, and mild scratches and dings. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
