Attractive Cased Colt London Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with Accessories - Serial no. 8094, 31 cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened/silver finish, walnut grips. This classic Colt Model 1849 Pocket was manufactured in 1855 at Colt’s London factory and has London proofs, the London barrel address, the distinctive round head English screws, and an iron grip frame. It features all matching serial numbers. It comes in an English case lined in navy blue. The case contains a cleaning rod, L-shaped combination tool, blued Colt mold, bag shaped James Dixon & Sons powder flask, W. & C. Eley cap tin, a key, spare nipples, and a spare mainspring. A russet brown leather flap holster is also included. The inside of the case lid has a Richard Burnand trade label inside the lid hand signed “J. Cookson Esqr.” There were several related well-to-do J. Cooksons in England at the time, including Joseph Cookson Esqr. (d. 1865) of the Royal York Crescent, Clifton, his nephew John Cookson Esqr. of Meldon Park, Northumberland, and Joseph’s grand-nephew, also Joseph Cookson, of Neachann.
CONDITION: Very fine with 90% of the original vibrant case colors remaining, 80% plus original blue finish on the barrel, 40% original blue on the cylinder which has a crisp scene, 25% original silver on the grip frame, smooth gray and brown patina on the flaked areas, and generally minor overall wear from age and storage. The grip is also very fine and has nearly all of the glossy original varnish and minor handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is also very fine and has minor storage wear. The accessories are very fine with some mild wear mainly on the holster and cap tin. Overall, a very attractive cased set certainly fitting for an English gentleman in the mid- 19th century. Exceptional Cased Colt Model 1855 Pocket “Root” Percussion Revolver - Serial no. 21419, 28 cal., 3 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. This incredibly high condition Colt Model 1855 Pocket revolver is a “Model 2” variant manufactured c. 1859 with a
3 1/2 inch octagon barrel with a cone front sight and the pointing hand followed by the two-line, two-block patent and address marking and a round cylinder with the cabin and Indian roll-scene. The bottom of the barrel also has a “K” marking. A sight groove and notch rear sight are incorporated into the top strap. The revolver is finished with blue on the barrel, cylinder, and frame; casehardening on the loading lever and hammer, and has a “piano” varnish finish
on the nicely figured walnut grip. It comes with a period correct partitioned case containing an Eley Brothers cap tin with green label, a few lead bullets, double sided eagle powder flask, blued two cavity bullet mold with “COLT’S/PATENT” marked on the sprue cutter, key, and screwdriver. The underside of the case has a Turner’s Express of Portland, Maine paper label.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 95% plus bright original high polish blue finish with slight wear on the high edges and scattered handling marks. The cylinder scene is crisp. The hammer and loading lever retain 85% original case colors. The grip is also excellent with nearly all original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. The case is
