Pre-World War I Imperial German DWM Model
1908 Navy Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Kiel
Shipyard Marking and Board Shoulder Stock with
Werft Shipyard Marking - Serial no. 3253B, 9 mm Luger
cal., 6 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. This is one
of approximately 26,000 (some sources say up to 40,000) Model 1908 Navy
Lugers manufactured, typically seen with an “A” or “B” suffix serial number.
These were issued to the Imperial German Navy all the way through World War
I and even into the Weimar era. The Navy 1908 Luger is distinguished primarily in
that the grip safety was eliminated from the previous model. It has no date on top
of the chamber, “crown/M” Navy proofs, the desirable 6 inch Navy barrel, “DWM” logo
marked on the front toggle, a two-position 100-200 meter Navy rear sight, and the
safety marking “GESICHERT” located in the upper position. Standard military style serial
number placement with all matching visible numbers, with some numbers restamped to match. “W.K./9828” (Werft Kiel) marked on the rear grip strap, indicating
issue through the Imperial Navy shipyard in Kiel. The pistol is fitted with a correct pre-war Navy type magazine with nickel plated body and walnut base with concentric circles
and “3987/b” and “crown/M” marked on the bottom. Includes a board shoulder stock with unnumbered iron attaching area and “W.D.229.” (Werft Danzig) marked on the circular iron disc, indicating issue through the Imperial Navy shipyard in Werft, a major nerve center for Imperial German naval operations. Per the consignor, this pistol was restored by Gale Morgan. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 98% professionally restored blue finish. 80% applied straw colors visible on the small parts. Grips are also very fine with a small chip and two small cracks at the top of the right panel, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Included board stock is fine with some light handling
marks in the wood and 60% refinished blue finish on the attaching iron.
Estimate: 3,500 - 5,000
