Tigers were among the chief quarry of those buying these large bore hunting rifles from England, making this the perfect engraving for this rifle, and paired with the .500 Nitro Express chambering, this rifle is sure to have taken many animals during the golden age of big game hunting in India. The rifle features bushed firing pins, dual triggers, and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with blued grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, blank gold inscription oval, rear sling stud, and red rubber
recoil pad. The included letter from Westley Richards confirms the boxlock action, caliber, and double trigger configuration when the rifle was completed in 1904 and sent to J. Lyon & Co. The length of pull is 14 5/8 inches and the rifle weighs 11 lbs. 11 oz.
CONDITION: Fine as period refurbished with 95% of the blue finish, mostly smoothed matting on the rib, legible markings, small nicks and scratches, some spotting along the left barrel, a few areas of light sub-finish pitting, and some light edge wear. The receiver has 90% plus vibrant, restored case colors with well- defined engraving and some small dings. The wood is also fine with well-defined recut checkering, small scattered dings, and a crack on the left side of the butt. Mechanically excellent. A chance to own a wonderful example of British sporting arms during India’s golden age of big game hunting.
