casehardened finish, walnut stock. Named for Holland & Holland’s famous Badminton Shooting School, the Badminton Model came about in the post World War One years as a rebranding of H&H’s No. 2 gun and are built on the same action as the Royal Model guns with less (yet still very attractive) finishing work. This gun has blued steel barrels with a single nickel bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked “’Badminton’” and shows a floral scroll flourish at the base,
“HOLLAND & HOLLAND.” and “98 NEW BOND STREET. LONDON” marked on the right and left respectively, correct period London proofs, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The casehardened hand detachable sidelock action displays highly attractive scroll engraving with “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” signed on both lockplates. The gun features double triggers (front articulated) and automatic tang safety with gold “SAFE” marking. Nicely figured, multi-point
checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, blank gold inscription oval, and checkered bare butt. Includes an oak and leather takedown case with canvas cover and H&H trade label and numbered data sheet on the interior lid. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at 28 (.550 inches) and measured .555/.554 inches; choke constriction .007/.013 inches; minimum wall thickness .026/.028 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 5 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% plus professionally reapplied blue finish, 50% original light case colors with the balance a fine grey patina, some minor rubbing at the muzzles, and overall minor handling evidence. The wood is also very fine with a wonderfully executed replacement buttstock, a slight crack coming off the left sideplate, a few light scratches, and sharp checkering. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 12,000 - 18,000
