Edition Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter - Serial no. T03173, 357 magnum cal., 6 inch vent rib bbl., stainless finish, rubber grips. The right side of the barrel is etched with a floral pattern bordering an unfurled banner with the dates “1836” and “1982” with Samuel Colt’s signature in the middle of the banner. Also depicted is the Colt factory dome and the Colt Custom Shop logo. The left side of the barrel is similarly embellished, with the same floral pattern, dome and Custom Shop logo bordering an unfurled banner reading “SILVER SNAKE .357 MAGNUM”. The left side of the frame features an etched coiled python. The included factory letter confirms the revolver’s features including chambering, 6 inch barrel, stainless finish, and Pachmayr grips with inset Colt Custom Shop pewter medallions, when shipped to Ellett Brothers Inc. of Chapin, South Carolina, on June 28, 1983. LOT 1477
Colt California Combat Python Style Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter - Serial no. K03028, 357 magnum cal., 3 inch vent rib
bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1980. The
included factory letter lists this revolver as a Target Python with an eight inch
barrel chambered in .38 Special, royal blue finish, and stocks not listed when shipped to M&N Distributors in Torrance, Calif., on Jan. 14, 1981. The letter further remarks that the Target Python was produced from 1980 to 1985 with only 3,495 produced with a blue finish. The California Combat Python was built by Pacific International off of original Colt Target Pythons (what all California Combats letter as) by cutting down the barrel to three inches, adding a new front sight and barrel marking, and reaming out the cylinder for .357 Magnum ammunition. These original 8 inch .38 Target Pythons were directly sold and delivered to Pacific International. Although this revolver is in California Combat Python configuration, this original 8 inch .38 Target Python was not sold and delivered to Pacific International, and therefore it is our opinion that it is a copy of Pacific International’s famed California Combat Python. CONDITION: Excellent overall as upgraded (see above), with 98% of the blue finish remaining with a faint cylinder drag line and a few handling marks mostly on the grip panels. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000
